Code has always been cheap, even before AI/LLMs. It’s your ability to understand your client’s problem and come up with a good solution that’s what gets you paid.

open models is what will kill Anthropic and OpenAI
i doubt it. it cost money to train a model. we can see that with the price increase for Kimi3. Chinese AI companies is leaving a lot of money on the table for third party providers. you think they going to let go of those money that they can make. sooner or later they will want to collect. after all, none of Chinese open weight model is release by a none profit. its all for-profit companies that is releasing open weight model.
its ironic that IBM sold off its x86 pc/server to Lenovo and kept their big iron (mainframe) but now everyone is buying up pc/server due to AI boom. Dell's stock have been surging with the rest of AI stocks
its no difference than US team fixing slop written by outsource company from India. where do you think LLMs learn slop code from?
AI slop? Humans write slop too. We’ve all heard the stories, companies outsource projects to India, only to bring them back to the US for the local team to fix.
I saw it myself at a past job. We hired a consulting firm to convert a project. They outsourced it to India. In the end, we had to hire a US company to rewrite the whole thing from scratch.
Talk about slop!
Microsoft needs to offer cheaper option since they change to token based billing. GPT-5.4 used to be x1 for yearly subscriber but now it cost 6x. i run out the premium request for just couple prompts. Github copilot for $10 used to be the best value since you get all the US AI labs model for cheap.
he could have rented GPUs the way Elon did at this point

i like Chinese open weight model that offer cheap token but i only use it for my personal project.
China have a history of stealing IPs/trade secrets and Chinese court favored its own local companies. while US have a robust court that can enforce IPs. if you want to risk your company's IPs/trade secrets/data for some cheap token. Go ahead and use Z.ai's services.
to me its more about company's IPs/trade secrets. china have a history of stealing IPs and very poor IPs enforcement while US have an established history of protecting IPs and US court can enforce it but hey, cheap token is more important, right?
The AI race right now is in a sad state. Chinese's playbook is releases open weight models and trains them on their own chips.
Anthropic pushes fear and control. But the only way to win is by innovating. China is flooding the market with cheap, good enough models, while the U.S. is building a Chinese firewall.
Running LLMs locally for development doesn’t make sense to me. The hardware gets outdated in just a few years. Even hyperscalers replace their GPUs faster than they can buy them, plus the cost of running it locally, isn’t cheap. the cost saving just ain't there.
zero coding benchmarks
"What gets measured gets managed"
cheap token is more important now than ever. Chinese open weight model is getting pretty good. the real cost of AI adaption will come down to who (China or US) can provide cheap token for consumers and companies. Microsoft consider DeepSeek for their cowork is an example and now OpenAI with its own AI inference chip.
SOTA LLMs is less important than cheap token and Chinese AI labs is releasing model that is only about 6-8 months behind American AI labs.
Chinese's model like GLM is getting better for coding task and its cheaper. Microsoft Github copilot have to switch billing to token based. the cost of AI have increased since agent come into play. whoever can offer cheaper token to do task will win.
even Microsoft is looking into Deepseek for cheap token.

i'm using LLMs to do personal aspnet web project. i'm not skill in javascript. i let AI handle it and learn.
One of the things that makes @SpaceX so valuable is how valuable it is. The Cursor acquisition costs materially less in dilution because of SpaceX’s high valuation.
It’s the best exit for Cursor. There’s not much of a path for Cursor besides getting acquired. Cursor is a fork of VSCode. How much improvement can you really make? Cursor’s own model is based on a Chinese model. OpenAI and Claude are SOTA for coding. The only selling point for Cursor’s model is that it’s cheap.
This is the best outcome for Cursor.
cheap token for the win.
Microsoft github copilot recently changed their billing. i'm on the yearly subscription. GPT-5.4 is now 6x and even previously free model like GPT-5 mini now cost .33x. its only June 11 and my usage is now at 50%.
Chinese model is good enough and cheap.
i've a Github copilot yearly subscription. Microsoft recently changed their billing to based on token. i'm still getting billed per premium request but GPT 5.4 is now 6x compare to 1x before.
two weeks notice when you leave but where's the two weeks notice when they fired you.
middle man? Model providers/hyperscalers -> OpenRouter -> consumers?
coffee farmers -> middle man -> you
ChatGPT came out in 2022. Back then it was just a chatbot. Now we have AI agents. What matters is how we use them and how the agents get better. That’s what will move AI forward.
by author's logic, is Ubuntu not a distro since its based on Debian? i don't understand what author is trying to say here.
good name recognition for Anthropic mega IPO. everything Anthropic does now is all gear toward its IPO from buying Bun, Stainless, getting big name AI guy to join...etc.
Frontier AI labs is pivoting to something that can justified their IPO. just like OpenAI shut down other services and pivot more into coding. They want to show profitability before their mega IPO.
Why internet advertising won't work? Google and Meta got big based on selling ad online and they have been doing it for 10+ years.
This is a classic Elon move. He bundled up his company that is, shall we say, crap, into his most valuable company, then tried to hype it up as much as he could. Like when he promised Tesla cars would self drive in X years but it never happened, then pivoted to AI/robots, then re-routed Tesla’s GPUs to xAI, etc.
Cursor might not be the new hotness, but if we believe that agentic coding is the next wave and we’ve gone from asking chatbots to actually using agents for coding, then yes, this move makes sense for Elon to hype up a SpaceX IPO.
I've subscribed to Jetbrains all product for years. If the agent coding is going to be the next wave. Jetbrains is really behind. Even Microsoft offer better agent coding with VScode and Github copilot cli.
DVD discs is not good for long term storage. it can get scratch and became unusable. you want a NAS/PC then rip the dvd and use plex or Jellyfin to watch your collection.
fake it until you make it? at some point this attitudes of Silicon Valley start up will back fire.
