wow, I wanted to have this for a long time. I looked at Crystal, but it never sat right with me.
I think some of the limitations can still be implemented (definitely Threads and Mutex), and I'd prefer it to compile to LLVM-IR or something, not C, but overall I think it is great to see Matz playing around with AOT compiling.

you are not, I consider both self hosting. I used hetzner for a long time and they were doing a great job. These days I run a server in my basement, because I had the hardware around. Most months of the year it also contributes to heating the house :D

Could you create a type around Mutex that enforces the locking order?
I'd rather have a polluted $HOME than a polluted env that slows down every fork.
The script should have a --without-env option or similar.
