My colleagues gave me a bonsai when I left the company. I loved it and it was georgeous. When I switched to my actual house, the bonsai felt it and started to dry out. I could not stop it, and even transplanting it to better soil and placing him in another room. It never went up. Right now I don't know if its alive anymore, and makes me very sad.

Usually, some people change their .env files in the root of the project to inject the credentials into the code. Those .env files have the credentials in plain text. This is "safe" since .gitignore ignores that file, but sometimes it doesn't (user error) and we've seen tons of leaks because of that. Those are the variables and files the llms are accessing and leaking now.

What nobody says is that, face blindness is a protection mechanism from our brain for protecting ourselves from losing our minds. When you see your friends growing up and don't remember when you were kids, or when you see the kids at school and you think 'they are younger than I were when I was in there', that's your brain using this mechanism. Forgiving all the faces that we had back then, so we don't feel so much like growing and getting old. That's why your family will always look like they are right now, and you need to make an effort to remember them when you were kids, and remember them in their kid form.

It's not about being rich or not, it's about working hard to have a simple life. If you take a look into all those people who are not having kids, usually is because their work and balance in life needs to be like that. If you have a kid, it will lag your career and probably will stop the way you make more money each year, by growing up or scaling up in your company.

I don't have any specific book on the topic. But you can find homeostasis in almost any scientific medical book. From 'principles of internal medicine', 'acquiring gnomes' or even the magnificent Sapolsky's 'why zebras dont get ulcers'. They all have chapters about homeostasis and the principles of balance in everything.

This has been discussed in competitive videogames too. Usually people think that playing more and more is better, when actually having some days without playing is the best way to improve yourself.

In the first year or psychology you learn a lot of words and scientifical language. One of those words you learn is the "homeostasis". Which means the balance between highs and lows and how crucial is for a healthy life. You can study it in basic conditioning (a balance between stimuly, or you can create learned helplessness), in personality (a balance between happyness and depression makes you happier than the happiest person in the world), neuropsychology... and any other field with the same theory behind. So yeah, having balance between everything in your life is the most important thing you can achieve.

In my company we decided to go to the office 1 day every week. It´s completely optional and most of the people come. For us, that day is almost 100% lost. You spend the morning in some calls, dailies and things like that, and ofcourse taking some coffees and talking to people that you didnt see in 1 week. I even send myself notes for the next days when i work from home where im more productive.

Not all, and even that, leasing is a cost in their accounts, which is good. Those companies that have huge ammounts of benefits need huge costs to maintain a propper balance.

If we oversimplify everything, yes... it's all about prop up real estate prices. But if we want to talk about this, we need to have in mind the capital amortization. The value of every business goes up or down if their fixed capital gets old or unused. For example, if you have 100 computers and every computer costs 1000, your company has that value as capital. But if they lose value in the next years and those same computers have a value of 50 in the market, then your company's value is halved (oversimplifiying it). The same happens with buildings and offices, if they lose values the company loses value too. Forcing workers to move to the office gives value to the area and the building, and the buildings around, and that's one of the main reasons why they are forcing the back to office thing.

I have a 100% remote job. But my team have decided to go at least every tuesday to the office. We are not obligued, but almost everyone comes to the office once a week just to socialize and talk about our projects and sometimes even to take a beer or two after work.

To me, feels super refreshing to talk to people when Im at the office, and to be fair Im much much less productive in the office. But makes me appreciate when Im at home and when I dont need to be in the car for 1 to arrive my home, take everything and go to the gym.

It feels like, going from time to time to the office when almost everyone is there, gives to the remote working more sense and value. And viceversa.

Graphics are always secondary, no matter what. Graphics are a tool in videogames. You have impressive light management like in DayZ with graphics from 10 years ago, and you have one of the most expected games and one of the best games in the last decade which is elden ring (or zelda for the same purpose) that have normal graphics (or even cartoonish in zelda's case) and does not matter a lot.
