In my experience, web push notifications on Android do not show immediately (i.e. with high priority). They only show when your phone wakes. Does anyone know of a workaround for this?

I've had no issue with Firebase on a personal project just pushing to my android. The big caveat is that the push doesn't wake the phone. So all notifications drop in when I click the screen on.

I estimate that astronomers need to know about tradeoffs on a telescopes' settings for the data they are looking at. But I'm unconvinced that they necessarily need to know how to operate it (would depend on the workplace) and I certainly disagree that how they are constructed is absolutely necessary for all astronomers.

More knowledge is always good, so of course learn what you want. But it's not being "ashamed of tools" to say that a CS degree should "do one thing and do it well".

Additionally, we can simultaneously say that a university should encourage tool mastery while also saying that they don't need to teach entire courses on it.

My university had Dijkstra's quote "Computer science is no more about computers than astronomy is about telescopes". They made us aware of tools and we were free to use them as little or as much as possible to do the science. I always assumed that software engineering degrees focused on tools more than computer science degrees (among other differences).

I was confused for a few sentences when the giver/taker terms were used without explicit definition. I assumed they were used to denote information givers/takers but the definition is more like spotlight giver/takers

One time I made a "Hitler finds out"* meme and uploaded it to youtube. My video immediately got 2 copyright claims on it. One was for the video and was probably by the film rights holders. The author is correct about centralized NFTs not being what you expect them to be. They are wrong that NFTs are debunked. A true web3 game will never have the servers shut down. Everyone collectively pays for the server costs. Every time you do something in the game, you pay for your little slice of server time.

Web3 games will never be shut down (if properly decentralized). The "game server" is effectively pay-as-you-go.

NFTs grafted on to web2 games is a start of player owned gaming, but true web3 games will be wholly player owned.

These shutdowns (along with things like Diablo's Error 37 launch) are why gamers will gravitate to games they can't get rug pulled on.

Financial education and common sense are at all time highs at a global, hundred years zoom level. If you are trying to make a claim about your region on a shorter time scale, I could believe it. Same for "people want money more than ever". Could be true for your bubble, country, etc but is not globally/100 year window. But of course this claim is hard to measure.

Imo most people who spend time resisting things like AI and Blockchain will spin their wheels before being lumped in with the Luddites. Make sure tech is used correctly because you aren't stopping it. Even if you "stop" a given tech in your country, many other countries will embrace it and leave you out of the conversation.

This is true for so many other aspects of life as well. Things are the way they are for a reason. Not understanding the deep and complex factors that got the system to where it is dooms you to repeat the mistakes of the past. This is why I go for depth on what I complain and ideate on rather than breadth. Dive deep on something you care about instead of having an opinion about everything. Humans have done well with specialization. If you enjoy breadth, go for it. I just don't see it as very effective.

I suppose that complaining without proposing solutions is akin to protesting. You may not necessarily know what you want specifically, but you don't want the current system.
