But that being said, the problem I think is that people treat the output from LLMs as final.

It should be treated more as idea generation or early draft to get over the “staring at a blank page” and get the creative juices flowing and creating your own content.

Having purely AI generated content and eventually feeding the algorithms and soon enough every sounds the same (already does in a lot of places).

Why do all these Notion “replacements” seem to think Notion is just an MD editor and note taker. It seems the unique position of notion is the ability to integrate databases into documents much less within each other. That’s the feature most of these replacements are missing.

Honestly if Notion would offer a self hosted version for companies, that would be a killer feature. Until then, I’m waiting until a feature for feature open source replacement appears.

In Virginia, I pay a lot higher rate for my EV than my wife does for her ICE vehicle. Which, I agree with another comment that I may be paying more than if I was paying the gas tax, but I understand the reason for it and don't have a problem paying for it. That being said, VA does have a program in place for the rate to be based on "use" (or mileage), but I haven't fully investigated that yet.

I wouldn't have an issue with a more Use based kind of tax for ALL vehicles as long as the money is specifically keyed to infrastructure (ie roads) spending and not a pot of gold for other programs to take from.

However, where this proposed bill really grinds my gears is that they're proposing having it pegged to inflation, which seems no problem for them to do, yet they haven't figured out how to peg the Minimum Wage to inflation yet, so...

I think the Game of Thrones type entries still are calendar entries to block time for personal events and not really To-Dos necessarily. I know plenty of people who block their calendars for personal time.

Agree with this. In the Louvre, there are many pieces of art not protected from potential damage that people who didn’t care could have protested at. Given that it was the Mona Lisa, I’m sure the thought that the protest would make a statement but not cause damage was considered.

New categories of hardware don't need a killer app at launch to be successful.

VisiCalc wasn't available day one of the Apple II being released. What was the Macs killer app? Laser Printer? Adobe photoshop? The killer app for the iPod? The dock connector and iTunes for Windows. iPhone? The App Store itself.

Meh. This is just latching on to some large companies (Netflix, etc) who already stated they won't be building custom apps for it. Netflix doesn't even have a native Mac app, so it's not surprising that they wouldn't have a native app for the Vision Pro, especially if the built in Safari can do everything a native App could or would.

Now, if there was an advantage to building an app for Netflix, et al then they will. I suspect that the success of the device (or failure) will determine if/when these large companies start thinking more seriously about native apps.

Many companies jumped on to the Apple Watch bandwagon only to find its limited nature hindered app development too much. Apple pitched the use case for the Watch in 3 areas, turns out it thrived on notifications and fitness tracking.

Talk to me after the Vision Pro launches and users start providing feedback on needs, etc and what the actual use case is.

Not to be argumentative, just wondering, has there been a case related to iCloud access that Apple has ever blacklisted someone? Certainly, I've heard of Meta and other companies doing not, but don't recall Apple outside of security confirmation issues people are having.

No, I fully agree, the idea being that there’s a standard set of analytics and a way to report on them that apps can openly support.

Granted the odd ball out would be Apple and if they’d support the analytics in their podcast app, but much like Apple’s podcast directory is the defacto directory, there’s an opportunity for a better, OPEN, solution.

EDIT ADD: I’d be surprised if every podcast app doesn’t already collect a robust amount of analytics on listening, they just don’t report it where podcast owners could see easily.

It’s amazing how little analytics there are on podcast listening by default as a standard that all apps should provide. Stuff like if an episode was started, marked as listened (but not actually listened to), etc.

I get the reason for this change in general and the idea behind it, although this still gives inflated numbers for a minimum of 5 episodes.

Agree that this change doesn’t address what happened. I’m studying for my PPL and certainly very inexperienced at this but this accident seems to be a combination of many mistakes on everyone’s part.

I know when instructor and I were going in for a landing we’d always note that there was a plane lined up to take off. Granted haven’t done night flying yet but would imagine the same thing would occur.

When we’re lined up to take off, after we get permission to enter the runway, we confirm it over the radio then make sure nobody is on approach or at least far enough out to make a speedy departure if asked by tower.

The point of that answer in specific is so the specialist doesn’t make up an answer if they’re not 100% sure it’s the right answer for the customer. Its goal was to make the specialist feel it’s okay to say you don’t know to the customer but that you’re going to work with them to find the right answer.

The problem with society is that we live in a world where everyone demands answers NOW and people in positions that need to provide answers MUST give answers. So regardless if a politician or authority figure knows the answer or not, everyone is unwilling (for whatever reasons) to say “I don’t know.”

When I worked at Apple retail, we were trained that if we were asked a question that we didn’t know the answer to was to say, “I don’t know, let’s find out together” and you either did some research on Apple’s site or asked someone who may know with the customer.

Because nobody wants to say that they don’t know the answer…yet (and that’s key) they take the current working theory and say there’s no evidence to the contrary.

Business value is the value that a business creates through sales or services. So essentially, income - expenses + goodwill.

Market Value is the price of the stock x outstanding shares. The problem lies in that a stock price does not necessarily correlate to how well the business is doing or not doing. And the stock price can be manipulated by the Business (cut expenses to the bone to make the QTR/YR look fantastic) or by rumors or by loud mouths on TV who have a vested interest in the company, so they talk it up. Or by a tweet by the CEO claiming they'll be able to do something which everyone knows they won't, but hell, why not buy the shares.

One day, I hope, people will inherently understand that Market Value != Business Value. Particularly in these days of extremely high valuation.

Yep, we rented a Tesla from Hertz during a recent vacation. Took a small pebble in the window causing a 1-inch spider crack on the lower part of it. Over $1200 repair bill sent to us for it, luckily we had insurance through our credit card.

Agree on the opinionated nature of the OS. I'm an Apple diehard since the Apple ][+ but as an adult these days, I'm also tired of the Puritan overlord that Apple is. Software wise, create better controls (ie let me lock down app screens, etc) so a kid can use my iPad and I can keep more adult stuff locked away.

Of course, my question is more hardware wise in that it looks to see if there is any major hardware "features" that would improve the device or for the most part, was the hardware mostly "perfect" in it's initial design (yes, no camera bump, etc would be nice).

Agree with you on that. I've heard on a podcast (Make Me Smart, maybe) that the HBO brand did not appeal to women, which is what led them to this decision.

And while I'm here, we need a better "standard" of reporting MPC on EVs based on the manufacturer's suggested daily charge rate (80 - 90%), not the maximum that could be achieved in specific scenarios.

Cars are generally a commodity these days...especially since vehicles look 60-80% the same (in each class of vehicle), short of some design changes.

So, MPC (Miles per Charge) is essentially the equivalent of the computer GHz race, the faster the processor the better...at least as far as marketing is concerned.

Couple that with range anxiety and you have the perfect way to incentivize people to buy heavier cars for longer range batteries.

In a few years, if/when battery technology improves for autos then we'll start seeing a gain in milage without a gain in battery size. Look at the battery in an Apple Watch. It wasn't so long ago that a device that does as much as the watch does lasting your waking hours seemed a fantasy.

Yep, that was my thought has well, certainly the in video they didn't show any type of turning with any amount of lean into it where this would have been an issue.
