I'm also on side with regular one to ones. Especially as working can now be more remote, I think they are a useful touchpoint to help continue that relationship with the manager. The important thing, like all meetings, is to make sure that you're getting the value out of it. If you don't have anything to say & neither does your manager, then skip that week's meeting. But having that constant slot & occasionally using it for just a chat occasionally can help a lot.

Answering as a severly sight impaired but not fully blind person. But yes - of course! I'd throw it back at you - do you experience sexual attraction purely by looks alone? I seriously doubt it (and would be concerned if you did!). How a person sounds, smells, feels, behaves etc. all come into it. If your partner playfully blindfolds you, you wouldn't suddenly stop enjoying the experience.

Going to sit back & watch this one with interest. I imagine you're going to get a certain flavour of comments from the HN crowd...

My advice will be that every child is different. You'll get given 101 bits of advice & most of it will be useless in your context. When you do find something that works for you, great - stick with it. Even if it looks crazy to other people, if it works for you then that's all that matters.

Don't try to hard. There's no perfect parent or perfect child. Do what you think is best & the children will turn out just fine.

Long time since I saw Netflix struggling.

My major worry here is how they'll get their hands on enough CM4's. Aren't they like gold-dust at the moment? Lots of similar projects have stalled recently because the supplies just aren't there. Is the KickStart going to finish, we'll all get charged $250 but no product will be able to ship for several months to a year past the expected date?

I kind of feel sorry for the MS chaps here. They admit it's wrong, say they will try to fix it but it'll take time because of bureaucracy. But then they get attacked in the thread because they are Microsoft. It's sad to see when they are generally trying.

As everyone else has said - the doubt is normal. My advice would be to try and strip the product into parts more & tackle them one by one.

Creating a total product end to end in one go, that's scary. Creating a user model, easy. Creating an authentication level on that model, easy. And so on. Take it one step at a time.

Really? We certainly do here. Linux packages are mirrored. Programming dependencies are mirrored via tools like Nexus or Artifactory.

Like tsuresh said - stuff happens. What if you internet connection went down for a long period of time. You couldn't continue working. It takes very little to setup, gives you fall over but also makes installing dependencies sooo much faster.

Yeah, I remember the same thing happening to me as well when I was young. Luckily in my case I had enough air to use my hands to pull myself along the underside to the edge. But you instantly thought "That was far too close". I wonder if they still have those in schools with pools nowadays.

Also your HN post had a very big air of uncertainity, lack of confidence etc. If you want your product to succeed, you'll need a lot more confidence in it & yourself. Don't put yourself down like that. I agree there might be less choices up north than say London & SF. But at the same time, living costs are far lower. So it's swings & roundabouts - there's never an ideal situation. This stuff is hard - that's why everyone isn't doing it and making millions.

Completely agreeing with this comment. The first thing I wanted to do was see it in action myself (and by see, I mean use). As soon as I couldn't there & then I left.

The "Right tool for the job" example also was more damaging than useful in a way. You have this huge blowup circle to show the toolbar. But that's over 50% whitespace and even hides the demo you have running behind it.

It's not just allergies. I'm partially sighted & have very little peripheral vision. Some people have brought their dogs into our office & there have been times where I have accidentally "kicked" the dog simply because I have not seen it on the floor (and was not expecting a dog there anyway).

I like dogs & don't mind having them in the office but I certainly think it needs to be made very clear where the line lies when it comes to "me or the dog" issues.

I wouldn't hold your breath on that. The Alfred team are sticking to what they are good at - Mac development. Porting something to Windows (and doing it natively) is a huge chunk of work & all the time you wouldn't be working on improving the existing product.

I was also about to come here & highlight that phrase. It's completely true. I don't regret having a child for one single second because she is amazing. Got any references for this so I can do some further reading? As someone starting to learn Objective C, I'm mainly being told to use @synthesize. I did a quick Google for links about it not being required. There are some saying it might possibly be automatically added but then there were also a lot of responses saying this is still not the case & that @synthesize should be used still.

It looks very much like Letterpress to me. I assumed they were both built using the same framework. Although the developer's comments seem to indicate otherwise.
