It seems it wasn't a new release. It opened in Europe in 2017 to very low ratings, the film didn't cost very much to make (relatively speaking) and this stunt has brought more attention to the film than any advertisement could have on its own.

Not true. For the small amount I am paying I am covered for one major surgery in a hospital per year. Hopefully I never have to use it. If I need two major surgeries in one year well then I'll pay for it. Sounds like I've got bigger issues.

More than one surgery per year I'm covered for surgery in the medical vehicle. So if I'm going beyond that, I think I'll take the extra 9220 that I'm saving every year and risk it! Call me crazy I think most of that money is going toward treating fat people and drug users.

I've lived in countries that have socialized medicine and ones without and my experience was dramatically different. I was always taught that socialized medicine was better. However I never got half decent care until I bought private health insurance.

My whole life I've been on government healthcare plans, across various countries. Imagine my shock when the first time I called my private health insurance provider at 34, it worked well. They chose the clinic I would go to, when I arrived to my appointment I was immediately ushered in to meet a physician. The physician was able to diagnose many problems within a couple of minutes, and I was asked to call my insurance company back so they could approve a series of tests and treatments.

I waited half an hour for approval and I then immediately saw two different doctors and had an x-ray all before leaving the building.

The clinic is interested in actually treating me and giving me the best care possible so that I don't come back. This ensures they get repeat business from my insurance company. Socialized medicine never gave me that kind of care or expediency in my life. The problems were all fixed.

One of the problems I've had for 10 years. Doctors were never able to diagnose it properly or it was "come back in 2 weeks, try this medicine, try that, etc." They were not interested in treating me they were interested in seeing me again and again because they were getting paid by the state.

I'm sure there are anecdotes to the contrary but I am completely sold on private healthcare. It's also fantastically cheaper. In Germany for example I was paying 800/month for healthcare, half "paid by my employer", which would really be my money. My current private healthcare costs about 380/year.

Diagnosed immediately, immediate care. I can buy as much or as little as I want and don't have to subsidize others. I'm encouraged to stay in shape and healthy.

Storage costs next to nothing, recovery costs a lot. Why would facebook who depends on this data for income ever delete it. You get two massive benefits from keeping it and setting a "deleted" flag.

I find the concept fascinating that anyone would think an algorithm is "racist". More or less begging human interference with the algorithm in order to make it less racist, anything anyone does can then be viewed as racist.

I've been working on webmail that only receives messages, doesn't send any. And I've been using it to signup on websites with, it works really well for the purpose because anything that ever arrives was sent by a computer.

I bring it up because it feels like that's a primary reason why people might be trapped on gmail is just that all the websites they are signed up on are linked to it.

What would alleviate your dependence on gmail? Maybe there's a product out there.

Google is not making it easy to avoid Google but I've done what I can to cut them out of my life. My smartphone is a custom build of Lineageos, clear of any closed source Google code, I don't use gmail or any other Google services and block Google cookies.

The most frightening thing about the data Google collects is location history. It was a real wake-up when I realised they use that data to map real life social networks. They know everyone you've bumped into every day, how long you talked to them for, who you've had a one night stand with. Your daily routines, who your friends are, and more, which all can be discovered just by analysing location history.

Them knowing what your favourite coffee shop is or where you work and live is just the tip of the iceberg.

I used to be a very heavy and trusting Google user. It started to get a little bit uncomfortable when I noticed an alert on my phone notifying me that there was a restaurant nearby that I might like to try. It occurred when I had 30-40 minutes to spare, it was a restaurant that indeed looked interesting to me, and was within a 5 minute walk. Yes that's useful but my conclusion was that this company knows way too much about me. It didn't make me comfortable when Google alerted me about flights I never explicitly told it that I was taking, and offered suggestions about how to get to the Airport that suited my routine.

A lot of first party apps and basic os functionality also relies on Google Play Services. As Google have been building more and more into the closed source portion of their operating system. They are attempting to create a foothold where the operating system doesn't work without it.

Up until now I wasn't aware microG was doing their own builds for Lineageos, when did that start? I'm quite happy to see that, it'll help a lot of people. I'd still rather see a world where custom builds aren't necessary.

I'd be very interested in seeing a Lineageos that does not include Google's proprietary and closed source Google Play Services. I understand you can download Lineageos without Google Play Services however a hundred different things you wouldn't expect the os depends on will stop working including GPS and even notifications.

I think it should be an ambition of the project, while remaining open source, to fill those holes. There are open source workarounds in the wild but they are not so easy to use. Google works against them with seemingly every update to android, and Lineageos helps Google by refusing to support signature spoofing. The mechanism by which use of alternatives is even possible.

Lineageos says that it supports an experience free from Google Play Services but in practice use of Lineageos without it requires a custom build of the operating system. Which is too bad, I think that would be a reasonably large portion of the potential user base.

I've heard about BEM many times and been forced to use it on a lot of projects. It seems to be reasonably commonplace I was hoping for some smaller tips so here's one I use very often.

Vertical height of text comes up a lot in CSS. It seems many people do not make liberal enough use of the line-height property. Line height is a magic bullet when you need some text to take up the correct amount of space.

With it, and your element styled to inline-block, of float left, or however you are using it. You are able to modify the font size later on without having any effect on the element's surroundings. It's also automatically centered vertically and you can change it without much effort.

Why would I want to use Babel to compile server side code rather than just use the latest version of Node? It's actually doing two compilation steps because it's got TypeScript in there too, which is also a compiler. It uses Jest for testing, which is primarily designed for React.

I haven't found my preferred environment scaffolding yet. As I go I find better and better ways to set up my app and usually it's pretty app specific. If I did find a great scaffolding tool I think it would be one I have full control over. Maybe a lot more like Yeoman which has been around for quite a while.

You can do a lot even without scaffolding, just npm init and git init.

Hire the most skilled people available to fill any role. These are companies, businesses, they have a duty to investors and stock holders. If you're worried about giving jobs to anyone other than the most skilled applicants, please redirect your attention to the schools and educational institutions.
