This has absolutely nothing to do with the article. The entire point was the political rat race to obtain the first mover advantage to eventually monopolize local markets, backed by government hindrance to competition.

We've seen this happen time and time again. Just look at what OpenAI tried to do with their AI safety bullshit. They're the "only ones" that can distribute AI safely lest it destroy us all. No ulterior motives there whatsoever.

Beautiful article. I've started reaching out to friends from university or even secondary school that I lost contact with. Sometimes it works out and we eventually meet up, but other times it just fizzles out. I've only ever regretted not reaching out to people. It's scary to do every time but I want to keep at it. Perhaps I'm too sentimental but I genuinely miss some people, and from what I've experienced, sometimes they missed me too.

One of my fondest memories from only a few years ago was when a friend that I was reasonably close with but hadn't seen in a long while messaged me on birthday. Probably didn't mean much to her but it still means a lot to me to this day. I should text her.

I tried paying for YouTube premium then they fucked around by not giving me all the features I paid for when I was visiting another country. There's no winning with these people.

You're lucky we have the luxury of such opinions like yours. With the way the world is going towards extreme financial inequality, and with the US becoming more hostile to other nations, I suspect that opinion will become harder and harder to justify for many people.

This shit was one of the reasons I stopped paying for YouTube premium and went back to aggressively blocking all ads. You try to give them money and they spit in your face regardless.

Well, the author did specifically say that the reason it's no longer free is because others have worked on the book and want to get paid. That being said, this is literally just an ad, especially because they did not keep the old version free.

I started paying for YT Premium a few months ago, despite hating the Google ecosystem. Figured I'd attempt to support the creators I watch. Then I flew to Trinidad over Christmas, and YouTube had the gall to tell me Premium features aren't supported in my location. Back to pirating and adblocking every fucking thing for me after that one

You can definitely search back more than a month. However the search is genuinely atrocious. I've been using tutanota for a few years now but every time I need to search my emails I think about switching to something else. It is just not acceptable for the service to need to slowly iterate through emails, downloading them one by one the first time you decide to go back that far, just to find something important.

LoganDark's comment about some people with ADHD being absolutely unable to will themselves to do certain things describes me so well it's scary. It's something I've struggled with for years, and has affected me at work lately.

I've always known I'm not lazy or stupid, and in the last few years I discovered programming and taught myself software development. I fixate on things strongly yet I struggle to do mental work if it just so happens that I find it uninteresting or pointless. It's fucking me up. My therapist even pointed out a few weeks ago that it's a strong sign of ADHD, but I hate the thought of having that... I guess now I really should seriously explore this. I only know that I started feeling like my dev job is pointless even though it's a great job, and my coworkers are fantastic. It's more deep than just pointless but now I can barely will myself do anything related to work...

IIRC I needed to use Microsoft Edge, and some codec from the Windows Store. Then I HAD to use HDMI (all my monitors are display port). There was something else too probably

Point is, if I can't just use my Firefox browser on Linux to get high quality content for money that I will happily pay, I'll just go get it for free.

Netflix refuses to serve me HDR/4K content unless I jump through a series of hoops and use the correct browser, OS and whatever else I'd have needed to do. Now I just refuse to pay for it, especially given how easy it is for me to just pirate quality content.

I have no problem paying Floatplane for LinusTechTips content, because they just provide the high quality content, where I can even just download the VODs easily. I'm tired of corporations fucking me at every angle when possible...

Yea you gotta just go AMD gpu. I had an NVIDIA RTX 3070 and despite being decently technically proficient I could never deal with the hassle of Linux gaming. I bought an AMD 6950 XT and immediately many random issues I was having like league of legends crashing or bugging out just stopped. Granted I also switched from default fedora to fedora with the Sway WM so there are some confounding variables there. Even a brand new game like Starfield just worked™ for me, which was quite surprising. I do just leave Steam on Proton experimental so that may have something to do with it.

Anyways, I'd recommend Linux gaming now to anyone if they have AMD hardware and value privacy. There are definitely still some quirks and typical Linux configuring but even for someone as impatient and intolerant to that stuff as me, it's been pretty good so far
