SEEKING WORK - REMOTE (based in The Netherlands)

Hi! I'm looking to get into the freelancing game. I'm currently employed so I'm looking for a part time gig (one day a week max) to test the waters. I've been developing since my teens, but always on the side. I now feel I'm ready to combine my product and development skills to build awesome stuff for others.

I like building tools that make people's (working) life easier. Building tools and small web apps to support people in their daily work is what I've been doing for the last couple of years, next to my work as a Product Manager. I think work like this suits my limited availability perfectly.

I build using 'full stack' Rails, started on Rails 2.3 in 2009 and have been a fan since.

Too bad there are many 'remote but inside the US' jobs posted. Anyone got a clue why that is?

That should be their headline, I didn't get what they are doing the first time I saw the page earlier today.

Why only the US, really?

All their add-ons are based on either open source or third party solutions. You can keep using the open source solutions by simply installing them yourself and the third party solutions all have API's or even gems to work with.

Chrome actually reopens all tabs for you if you use the command after restarting chrome. I don't like the author's solution because I use cmd 1-9 for navigating between tabs.

Google does have a banking license in The Netherlands, I was looking into this yesterday, but there is not much information available, I guess they are not using it. I still wonder why they got it though.

I've been looking for something like this. Often I read posts through either HN or someone's Twitter, while I'm also subscribed to the RSS feed. To have them automatically marked as read would be awesome.

Buy tickets for popular sport/music events, sell for double the money when the venue is sold out. Repeat.

This goes for any electronic device that stores data. Even then it can be hard to completely erase your data, as recovery tools are always available.

I suspect that in times of crisis people tend to play it safe and start more 'simple' companies, with safer business models, instead of swinging for the fences with experimental ideas that have no clear future or business model.

Still, there are some very interesting companies in this batch that are not particularly sexy but might have great potential.

Almost all applications are either for the iPhone or for the Mac. I also notice and appreciate the sophistication of a lot of these kind of programs. I still enjoy Tweetie's awesome iPhone UI every day I use it.
