is not proven. It's just some really smart people attempting to reach a conclusion I'm not sure is within reach. We just don't know.

This post really shows how much luck/privilege it takes to have a chance at success. Stanford, intern at LinkedIn, being able to just "drop by" in Palo Alto. "Silicon Valley is about People" and it takes a lot of money to get access to those people. The fall of Silicon Valley will be when anyone with the right idea and the ability to build it is able to get funding to actually build it.

Unhappy employees.

Lots of the SaaS products we use mean we don't have to hire more employees. So I'm not sure if dollars per employee is a meaningful stat.

I appreciate big successes revealing the jank-ness going on behind the scenes. It helps me fight imposter syndrome knowing that everyone is always learning.

Can Google release a patch to prevent it?

It looks like it uses tweets that were a reply to another tweet. This makes some of them read weird since there is missing context. I wonder what it would look like if it only used tweets that were original.

Google employees went on strike because of a government contract to improve AI used in the targeting of drone strikes. The fallout of that project lead to Google dropping out of the running for this contract citing its "AI principles".

We do something very similar to this where I work. Week 1 is not a vacation for us. Each developer has work assigned for the cycle but it might be high level or vague. We spend the first week designing the feature and nailing down requirements. We also do allow very important stuff to get added to the cycle. We have very brief standups at the begging of each week, but we also communicate throughout the cycle over slack.

It works very well for us as a small team of five developers.

We use Rails with the GraphQL gem and React/Apollo on the front end. Works great!

I'd love to see companies that use an algorithm to create "feeds" also release a full explanation on how the algorithm works. I prefer a chronological feeds mostly because then I know I'm not being manipulated by an algorithm. Making in transparent would give me confidence in it.
