A Loaded deck alone would cost that much. Yeah it is pretty expensive. But factoring in parking costs, taxi costs, muni costs, time, etc it's definitely worth it. I think about it as a transportation vehicle, so it's more in the league of a scooter, motorcycle, nice road bike. Perhaps the price will come down with time, but as of now I think demand is well exceeding supply.

Designers have been using animations to signal affordances in buttons and actionable elements. Drop shadows are still effective in doing this. Every design trend has been a reaction to the previous one. As interaction designers, we should always be thinking about the end user.

Not sure of the actual origin, but it seems to me that Safari is a reference to "journey", and works with the OS X naming after big cats. Then again it could just make sense in hindsight.

Beating a dead horse here, but Craigslist was able to acquire a critical mass of users by being first to market. If you actually examine the overall user experience from a functional UX perspective, Craigslist isn't actually that bad.

Very useful tool. Especially with a large data set you can analyze where people are clicking and the most common paths through a design.

The pixamid situation is similar to the reason the breakup notifier got banned by Facebook originally. A large amount of users were deleting wall posts made by the app, causing the app to get flagged and automatically shutdown temporarily.

Complex financial derivatives may not be as tangible as other engineering endeavors, however they do have tremendous value to businesses looking to hedge their risk and offer flexibility to their business models. The economic collapse caused by these complex financial instruments was not due to the Phd's that created these derivatives, but by the traders that didn't full understand the limitation of the risk models, as well as the moral hazard in packaging toxic assets into CDO's knowing they would easily be able to pass it along. Having said that, I'm glad I didn't sell my soul and become a banker ;)

Very clever concept. I also think it would be nice to easily browse edits by having the best css modification bubble up to the top.
