This means that the FED will certainly increase the unemployment rate and put pressure on companies. Why? Because they do not want a 70s type of inflation auto-fueled by wage increases which is actually already the case in the US but not in Europe.

I can only see a list of suffering people without expected outcome: North Korea, Venezuela, Iran, URSS, Cuba, etc.

(Genuine question to History geeks) Do we have an exemple of mass sanctions on a country that worked? Why are we repeating strategies that do not seem to work?

Theses sanctions seems to be designed to only short term please the people/voters/journalists of the sanctioning countries but are terrible to the sanctioned country/people long term without solving anything.

Why not punishing only the government: cancel all visas to the people working in the gov and especially their family. So no more rich gov kids in Western universities, etc.

I find a little unfair to punish people to push them in the streets and have them arrested, tortured or "administratively" punished (remember what happen after the Turkey coup in 2016? Military were punished but also many people working in the public sector.)

On the contrary. If you cannot trust the people being informed properly in an efficient political system, it means that you have an issue somewhere.

With mysql 5.7, range searches on indexes (BETWEEN() or equivalent) are notoriously slow with large datasets.

We discovered that spacial index (flatten to 1 dimension) can be used to solve a common issue: ip range queries.

The query costs dropped and all the query metrics improved.

My neighbor is Turkish (very good job). We often speak about inflation (because he recently came here and discovered almost zero inflation).

Sometimes he gives me examples of the consequences of high inflation in the little details of daily life. It is scary and frightening.

What people do not grasp is that high inflation kill all planification (even holidays, buy sometime "big" like a TV, meeting with friends, long term subscription, etc).

Because of it the reliability of business decreases as everbody is thinking short term and is acting at the last moment. How can you execute a big project if you do not know if the unpredictible inflation value will make it impossible or even kill your company? How do you handle an order if the customer cannot pay because the price went up? Or if the inflation eats all your margin, what do you do?

And of course I am not speaking about the negative impacts on the general mood, hopes, etc. on people.

I live in an area were most of the houses (+2 flats) use pellet (also in summer for hot water production). The air quality drastically dropped. It really "burns" the lungs some days.

I suspect that:

- combustion is not properly done most of the time and there is no need to have filters in the chimney.

- some pellets must not contain only "clean" wood

We are only waiting to move to a place with single familly houses because (in my area) they mainly migrate from petrol-gaz to solar energy (thermal) and heat pump (water-water).

This is mainly due to internal reasons (Election day is in a few months). Macron wants to appear Jupiterian again. He changed its communication strategy since this summer. Last couple of months he even "replaced" his (Prime) Minister(s) in the media.

Also, an important factor has to be understood about the majority of people in France (Europe?): they hated Trump. When a Democrat was elected, they believed that they had a friend sharing their view on the world. Reality felt like a stab in the back.

Reality is that we have entered a new Cold War: China vs USA. Countries have to take a side.

Would NFT make sense in trading of physical goods (wheat, cotton, oil, etc.) when there is a certification company (SGS, Bureau Veritas, etc)? NFTs (PDFs) could validate that the goods match the requirements? Or could NFTs be used in the land register?

The "fathers" of Dubai, Singapore, etc are highly respected and loved by the locals. Of course there are counter-exemples.

A better bet, would be to have a strong government building and planning efficient infrastructure (transportation, utilities, ecology, etc) so that private initiatives make economical and competitive sense.

These are not private initiatives. They were the will of powerful, bright and respected people.
