He doesn’t want to use Startpage because “I really don’t like their purple colour scheme.” Interesting.

In terms of DDG, I wonder if a non-invasive search engine is viable. I can’t think of a company (Apple?) would has the resources to do it.

Same. In fact, lofi seems to really disrupt my focus. There are times where a beat/kick is so loud it becomes disruptive. I also like background sounds and true ambient music.

“Well why does the entire internet say to use dd then?” Because they copy from each other just like you copied from them.

Great statement. This brings me some much needed internal clarity on my own thoughts and actions.

Here’s an important part:

Riad had initially set his car’s speed to 77 mph; he then set it to 78 mph, and then finally changed the speed to 75 mph. At the time of the crash, the car was going approximately 74 mph.

For me, I’d convict. This isn’t a case of ‘autopilot’ as much as it’s a case where a person purposely (with intent) set his speed above legal limits and did not maintain the attention while doing so.. causing the death of two individuals on their first date.

Tragic.

For Apple, 10m phones is peanuts. But for an independent company 10m units per year would be spectacular. If Apple kills the Mini, those people will need a new home.

Hm, I’d suspect most of the customers are more attached to the Apple iPhone than the form. I’m one, but, I could be wrong!

The main reason is that almost all content online comes from people who are mentally ill.

I wasn’t brave enough to say this, but since you have, I want to agree. Gaming, Discord, forums, etc - filled to the brink with mentally ill individuals.

CEOs need to be compensated on business metrics - not all financial. The metrics should account for short- and long-term growth, employee retention, public relations, etc. If you tank the company, you walk away with nothing.

No.

Google’s hardware is lackluster, their services come and go and are bloated with telemetry, their search is worse than ever, there’s no live customer support person to talk with in the event of a problem, and there’s no unified vision.

Engineering is good, leadership is abysmal.

I agree with most of what you said but when you compare COVID to malaria (at least in the US) it’s a bit silly. Malaria kills ~5 a year, COVID has killed ~500,000 and had life-long impacts on many more.

The “developed world” is who is holding the values up. Crypto is not a savings account for poor people to avoid authoritarian governments. It has no use. It’s nothing more than gambling at this point.
