One way this coronavirus situation forces people to consider universal coverage is that the less fortunate, without health care and means for testing, become an attack vector for the virus towards the more fortunate. This makes universal coverage in the self-interest of the more fortunate, and hopefully they realize cost-efficient.

If you have an old router with USB 2.0 ports lying around it's fairly straightforward to install OpenWRT and Zerotier and make a VPN with a private cloud attached if you mount a HDD, and as long as your file transfer requirements aren't too intense. Have one running on my LAN and it works well for FTP, SMB shares for backup, and normal VPN stuff. Plus, it doesn't consume much power as it's MIPS chipset.

They shut down the test after I pointed this out to them, but had I not they were completely unconcerned. At the time it was called "Real Mail Notification", so hopefully they have fixed the issue with this new iteration.

Was asked to participate in an early test for this last year. It was terrible.

I have a PO box and as that address includes the post office address you would receive notification and pictures of ALL mail going to that address, so everyone's PO box. Not good.

As with most consumer prducts, the limitation isn't technical, it's what will drive sales and increase profit.

If you figure out a slick new way to mirror a phone's display, congrats, you've just cannibalized a major brand differentiator in the sales process. Better to require an updated car surrounding that updated software.

It made no sense to me a few months ago when I experienced this issue test driving an Audi. The salesman told me to hold off on purchasing a Q7 because it didn't have the updated software yet, but that next year's model would. Said the Q5 did have it now, so he was advising the purchase of a cheaper car due to the software stack.

Clearly there is room here to innovate. I believe Apple is facing this same issue with their upcoming Apple TV product.

The problem I've always had with OpenVPN is that it seems to break down when you are behind the router running the OpenVPN server. I can get an 10.0.0.1 IP on the WAN but not on the LAN. I've asked this question in the OpenVPN forum, but never got a response so I am still using Hamachi. Still looking...

Have looked at it but configuration behind NAT router is a bear. Guess there is a reason LogMeIn bought Hamachi. Not trivial to authenticate and tunnel behind NAT.

I think it is also because Rose is a huge Mac guy, even fell and bruised his eye while protecting his iPad, and wants to understand how Jobs was able to make products that have so captivated the world. I don't think either Rose or Isaacson are techies, so they aren't approaching the discussion from a technical perspective, which is good, but from a general business and individual in history sense.
