Enthusiast in this contest more or less means you are excited enough about something to get a level above what normal people should get and just below professional pricing. An enthusiast camera body can be 2000 euros.
I would say an enthusiast computer is 2-4k.
It really depends what you meant with minimum salary (yearly?) because paying 3 months of salary for a computer like that isn't far fetched. You're not using this to generate recipes for cookies. An enthusiast level car is expensive as well.

Apart from cities with crazy density, you underestimate how much solar we could put in the city outskirts, and it would be fine. We have already the power lines anyway to bring electricity from power plants that are far from those apartments you mention.

Running a few VMs/Docker image requires some power, but not a lot. I like that I can choose how much.

I had for a long time a 2-bay NAS and upgraded the drives. I just built a DYI NAS and I got a Massive ATX case which supports 11-bay. Why? Because buying a drive is cheaper than replacing drives. Having an ATX case I can still run it with 2 bays, and I still have a computer case If i change my mind.
Ideal storage is a mix of HDD (WD RED, so optimized to run 24/7), SSD and NVME. Each of them is useful for something (HDD for longer term storage, as they are cheaper per gb), SSD and NVME for apps usage and caches

I was using Synology DSM, and now I went for Unraid. I'm curious to see where HexOS goes in the next few years.

Do you really think that being remote is "staying home with the kids"? You're physically in the same building as them, but either you're not really working, or your kids don't actually need an adult to be there because they are grown up anyway, so no childcare is needed because they go to school.

A honest question here from outside of the Swift world: why does it matter?
I'm a Clojure developer, have been exclusively one for the last 10 years and have no intention of changing anytime soon (in other words, I don't care/follow closely what the majority of development world is and what the trends are). A few years ago we had "Open Source is Not About You" [1] by Rich Hickey, basically pushing back that the creator(s) of Open Source don't owe anything back to the community. That piece has aged well for me: now I understand that something is what it is, not what I wish it was. And more importantly, the goal of open source isn't to be liked or used by everybody. It's a thing put out by its creator for others to use, and that includes Apple.
So really, why does the governance matter so much? If you don't agree with something, why not fork it and make it like you want it?

yes, any time you're burning wood you're climate unfriendly. But a lot of other things are climate unfriendly: where do you live what's the energy source breakdown? It's all renewable? Your computer was manufactured and furnaces were involved at some point: what about their emission? It's CO2 all the way down.
You should look at all of this relatively: from an absolute standpoint, humanity isn't good for the planet
That story is a nothing burger. CO rebreathing is the technique to monitor hemoglobin mass changes after a period at altitude. It's a test that lasts 3 minutes and has no consequence.

Excercise absolutely makes you age better. Actually, it seems that in order to have a decrease in all-mortality you need to exercise quite a lot (at least 1.5hrs a day.. for the rest of your life).
Aerobic exercise of course means more caloric expenditure, which you should totally compensate, but that's not hard for regular folks who train, only for extreme athletes

However, despite being convenient for the user, it isn't great for the grid nor scalable if all users were to have solar panels. (Here in Italy solar on rooftops are quite widespread).
You can see that a kWh on a sunny summer noon when all panels the area are working well, isn't worth the same as a kWh in the cold winter night, where non-renewables often supply the grid.
That makes kinda sense, a Tesla is mostly batteries anyway.
Jokes aside, how much batteries do you need? A Tesla Model 3 has 60kWh. That's a lot of battery. For my residential needs (I have solar panels) I would be looking at maybe 10kWh.
depending on where you live, that's where grid pricing comes from. I live in Italy and in my solar panels I have a kind of net-metering (not quite, since I need still to pay transports costs for the energy I buy back from the grid). In a year, they will phase out this regime and every person with a solar array will become a "producer". Energy company will pay the gross market price for the energy that you feed to the grid (and this price it's updated hourly if not more often). That will essentially do what you suggest: owners will start caring more about timing, and the grid will benefit. If you still don't care and want to feed the grid at the time when everybody else is also.. well the energy won't be paid much. And viceversa

I don't think the problem is how to update: it's easy enough in the interface, it just works. The problem is whether after the upgrade you suddenly don't see the heater anymore, or another device stops working.
I love Home Assistant. I only started using less than a month ago (moved into a new house).
However, the two times i needed to upgrade Core (I use Home Assistant OS, their recommended installation procedure), it broke.
The first time they had changed the spec of the 'correct' way of the YAML config file. Which means I didn't have an integration until i fixed the file manually (they deprecated something not gracefully).
The second time I don't know: I couldn't see anymore my Viessman Heater and check everything related to my hot water / heating so I gave up and rolled back.
I am a Clojure developer where there's almost never breaking changes, so this is a good reminder to not take that for granted. I think this is an aspect they have to improve a lot, if they want to cater to people who don't want a new hobby.
