Nice to see the image files being read without having to paste them and team rules. Cursor has been extremely helpful the last few months but increasingly more expensive. I spent almost 300 last month and had a lot of frustrating experiences so now I’m transitioning to Claude code in VS code.

You can enjoy automating tasks and not be destroying others. At my job I’ve been the main person automating tasks which has allowed us to be more accurate and more efficient and grow headcount by 50 percent for the team. You could argue we’d have grown more but the entire company has had 20 percent layoffs since I joined so I would push back on that.

Are you using it for other things? I think you can write code without it but it’s so good for research and stack overflow replacement.

Last night I used it to look through some project in an open source code base in a language I’m not familiar with to get a report on how that project works. I wanted to know what are its capabilities and integrations with these other specialized tools, because the documentation is so limited. It saved me time and didn’t help me write code. Beyond that it’s good for asking really stupid questions about complex topics that you’d get roasted on for stack overflow.

I have a four year as well and we go on grand adventures in the mountains and all over really. I think about this quote and decide that I’m shaping my kids spirit, their courage, their confidence regardless of if they’ll remember it. Beyond that in the present we experience joy and curiosity and laughter and life! I think low income family parents have to work more, sometimes multiple jobs to pay the bills so the kids end up with more screen time because maybe they have someone else watching them or they're alone depending on the age. If someone else is watching them it's easy to just give the kid a screen and they're not as concerned as the parents about the long term effects.

Also if you're a kid in a low income area where maybe it's not safe to go play outside or you need constant supervision to be safe you don't go out much and therefore screens become the default indoor play. My kids have a big backyard they can go out and ride bikes around and swingset and spaces to dig and play and get dirty in the backyard because I make enough to buy a house like that.

It's 3-4 times more expensive to use electricity in california than it is in Texas. sometimes 5 times more for peak usage hours during the summer.

I was in a counter-intelligence unit briefly and there was a mathemtician who spoke to us about the work they were doing to pick targets with the idea that if you can only out one person, who would be the most disruptive. You have all these interconnected but mostly isolated terrorist cells that don't know about each other except through a few people who may not be high up in the command but who are critical for the continuing cohesive existence of that terrorist group of cells and logistics etc.

So the military already was using math to pick targets, this is just the next logical step, albeit, scary as hell step.
