"What do you do for a living?"
"I illegally fix iPhones on the black market..."
What was the article? Now I'm curious
Do you know what porn today is like? There's so much of it and a lot of it is highly stimulating, full of interesting and unattainable-in-real-life kinks. Maybe you were exposed, but it was not likely as accessible as it is for kids/people now. Unless you have experienced the pit of despair, going through porn addiction, it's easy to think that people are going to survive it fine just like we did.
A lot of people can enjoy a healthy amount of porn and then move on from it because they were able to get a real life partner or something. Many are destroyed by it, because they have no other option and simply go downhill from there.
But it's true, you can't just ban it either. That's definitely what I'm not asking for.
Okay, the government could say if landlords increase their rent, then we'll increase their property tax by 5-10x the amount. If they want to play that game, we'll do the same, but much worse. Let's see what they do then.
Maybe there are fewer black-owned businesses than white-owned ones.
If we just give everyone automatically generated names from base64 or whatever, we can end racism and discrimination once and for all.
Nice to meet you guys, I'm "VszCwCF0hpPKufZecJelBA=="
I am indeed sick of political bullshit. One day, you may open your eyes and properly understand that I, as much as you, want something to be done for black Americans to right the wrongs. However, I can't help but call out the people who are simply using the death of one garbage man who threatened a pregnant woman at gunpoint to further their political goals, and then only after 2 weeks, they go back to their regular reporting after they've made their use of the movement to do their job. Nothing has changed. They've just milked the death of a man, like they did before with the other men before him. One day, I'd like to see a real organic movement that will enact real change. Until then, this is just a spectacle in our current clown world.
They never cover the success stories of small time traders who have been enabled by Robinhood and such brokerages who require no minimums and no commission fees.
To me, this just sounds like gatekeeping as usual. The boomer investors don't like the young blood coming in and ruining their game, and realizing how much money can be made by essentially shuffling money around on the stock market while doing nothing concretely valuable to society.
Bad economy might lead to wars and conflicts. But if it kills a lot of people, I guess that's good for the climate in the long game. Wars are also great for the economy assuming you survive.
Wow, the outlook for the next decade is fantastic.
I don't think this is a "funny haha gotcha conservatives" prank. This a real propaganda/fake news effort by a foreign power to subvert US journalism. It could happen to anyone. Is there really a need to make this partisan by dunking on the Right-Wing for falling victim to it?
What's the plan? Do you start executing anyone who doesn't openly support your cause? I mean, their silence is violence right? It's justified if we kill them. Only by killing the racists and enablers of racism, can we tear down the old system and build a new one that is not racist. I think that's the right thing for you to do. Anything less must be perpetuating a systemically racist system, no?
It's alright, no matter how bad that feels, it will never be as bad as all of us who missed the BTC boat when it was a little baby a few years ago. People spending it frivolously and treating it like it was worthless toy money since it was pretty easy to get. Then look at it now...
This is really old news, why did it just suddenly reach the front page of HN?
I believe this is the sell signal, to short $TSLA stock tomorrow.
The Democratic Party did kill off two of the guys who could've had something to say about it...(Sanders and Yang)
Now we have to pick between two sleazy old guys who are arguably two sides of the same coin.
The proportion of people who will change habits based upon convenience is high.
Good point. Another key thing is economics. Nice vegan eco-friendly locally sourced sausage there buddy. 10 bucks? No thanks.
If the people with power to do so cared about animals and the climate, they'd do everything they can to make sure their vegan products are affordable to poor people. They need to be at least cheaper than the meat products. But that does not seem to be the case.
Shush money so we don't revolt and put their heads on pikes.
Not surprising. There won't be any Chinese people coming to riot and destroy their businesses if they don't.
Just like how many small businesses are forced to put up signs supporting BLM and signs saying they are minority owned and asking to not be looted. Because there is an implicit threat of being destroyed if you do not support BLM.
I believe this is the candidate that can unify this country.
He's not Biden nor Trump. That alone is a huge accomplishment.
Diversity is good, but when it comes to stuff like the kernel or other system critical stuff, the color of your skin does not make you a better engineer. What do people even mean by diversity anyway? Addition of black or brown people? If a team of all Indian engineers adds a white person to the team, does that make them less diverse? Anyway, we need to be careful about this. Sadly, when management makes a poor hiring decision under pressure to add diversity and things go sour, people end up wrongly blaming the individual.
Torvalds is correct to play it safe here, because signalling for diversity ends up sending a signal to a significant portion of the free software community that the kernel development now prioritizes diversity/race/skincolor over the function and performance of the kernel. And fortunately/unfortunately, the kernel doesn't care what color skin of the hand that writes and debugs its code.

It used to be that the only way to win a losing game is to not play, but even now that's not an option anymore.
But the WHO said masks don't protect you? Who am I to believe, the World Health Organization, or some commenter on the internet? Just trust the health experts dude and stop being such a science denier. /s
If I see (in the photo/name) someone who has sexually assaulted me before, I'd like to be able to deny them from coming over to my house. Discrimination or not, people need to be allowed to deny people they would be uncomfortable with coming to their house. This is especially true for female hosts. My life > someone's hurt feelings that they don't get to Airbnb at my place
You came to advertise in the wrong place buddy. We've already bypassed your mainframe and soon will assume full control over your system.
Flagged article because even the slightest chance of Trump being right is not worth positive coverage of a drug he endorses that might be effective in fighting this pandemic.
That's not his full name. IIRC Scott Alexander is just his first and middle name or something, and the journalist was going to lay out his full name for everyone to know.
Freedom of association is important for all people, I believe. If Asian people have been victimized by other groups in American society, they should be allowed to congregate and live with each other, where they will be able to have the power and influence to protect their people and interests. If black people cannot trust the white police force to not kill them, they should be allowed to move to black cities with black police who will less likely kill them. And if whites feel that they cannot live amongst blacks due to their poor relations with eachother, who are we to stop them from leaving? Because forcing two opposing groups to live with each other only breeds more violence and suffering. I wouldn't shame them or call them racist. It's pragamatism at worst. You could bring up statistics all you want to say why x or y is not the case. But that doesn't matter to individuals. People decide these things on their own, in their best interest, for their family's safety.
Is it? On the other side of things, might black people want to avoid majority white neighborhoods where the white police will more likely target them as well? Might black people prefer black neighborhood themselves so that they can live amongst people they understand with a culture they're familiar with? Are those black people racist?
There's an image that comes along with coffee culture. I don't know if it was intentionally done by Big Coffee (TM) but coffee for many people has become a symbol of the working man. People want that "get a coffee and then head to the office" kind of feel. It's also a symbol of inspiration/aspiration. Think of starving artists caffeinating themselves while splashing paint at a canvas.
