The problem with geo-engineering is that it only treats the symptoms, not the root cause. Treating the symptoms has a side-effect: it lowers the incentive to treat the cause by making it less pressing.

What we want to avoid is not a 1.5 degrees warming, it's a 3 or 4 degrees one. By doing geo-engineering, you could fix the issue in the short time but you would also increase the probability of a bigger problem in the longer term.

Making it optional doesn't solve the issue since it means those who choose to consume resources eternally at the expense of others are rewarded. In the meantime, those who choose to do the "right thing" (dying a natural death) would be punished: indeed, dying in a world where others live forever seems far more painful than dying where nobody has a choice.

There is no such thing as "doomed". Humanity is not going to disappear. We can either do better or worse, and there really is no limit to the "worse" side.

I am French too and this sounds greatly exaggerated. Either you don't really know about the situation in Hungary or you have a very twisted view of what's happening in France (maybe induced by the medias). You should take a step back.

There is a much simpler system with a proven track record, used in many democratic countries: two-rounds voting [1]. Just vote a second time for one of the two top candidates if no candidate reached 50% of more.

I'm convinced this would deeply, radically change the US.

Bitcoin today is mainly seen by its investors as a store of value. The closest real-world asset would be gold, which is arguably even less ecologically friendly.

Why create a new language if you only remove things? You should be able to achieve the same with a strict linter.

Would it be reasonable to hypothesize that, through lack of sun exposure and ensuing vitamin D deficiencies, lockdowns kill more people than they save? (that is, the increase in mortality would more than overcome the decrease in cases)

We cannot know for sure of course, but is it unreasonable to even consider?

You should try SqlAlchemy Core. It does not have the drawbacks of an ORM but still saves you the trouble of writing sql queries as raw strings.
