In Firefox about:config switching network.IDN_show_punycode to true could HELP spotting these kind of scams. But I believe that, in the end, once it's showing in Google results, it's game over.

Ads in search result are looking close enough to regular search result for people to just trust it and click.

I also find the 4k catalog very... lacking. (In Canada at least). Movies outside of Netflix originals are just not available in 4k.

The Windows 11 announcement is what made me transition to Ubuntu in the last few weeks. So far, I made the transition on 4 out of 5 of my windows PC.

It's far from smooth enough to become mainstream (with ubuntu at least.)

A few example: Steam wouldn't launch on my PC with an Nvidia card. (At to install some x86 package to make it work).

File sharing just didn't work at all without manually edit the smb.conf file.

Ubuntu randomly ignore my router DNS settings. All my self-hosted stuff requiring local DNS randomly stops working unless I force ubuntu to use my own DNS server.

Some games just don't work on any of my PCs (even if they are gold/platinum in protondb).

And many more stuff that works out of the box with windows. Overall, despite the issues, the experience is still positive and i'm not going back.

Twitch trying to discourage the use of the embedded player/non official players (like VLC) by replacing the content by a fullscreen purple picture asking you to watch on twitch.tv.

Reddit trying to force mobile user to use the reddit app as soon as the content is marked NSFW.

Instagram forcing me to login to view pictures.

Twitter asking me to see who someone is following.

In Materialistic you can hit the red round button that appears bottom right of the screen. That way you can zoom. It won't help you much with this article, but it can be handy sometimes.

It doesn't work for me at least. I still see a ton of ads on the youtube app on all of my Roku devices. I heard that it works for some people so maybe i'm hitting domains that aren't in the blocklists due to my location?

I know that the AOMedia foundation was created in response to MPEG-4 HEVC licensing... Having an alternative might help getting rid of the HEVC!

You are not alone. Firefox is unusable for me on my mac book pro 15' 2015. HTML 5 videos are basically a slideshow.

On my PC with windows 10, Firefox eat 25% to 30% of my CPU looking at a twitch stream (1080p60). Chrome and Edge will use about 5% while looking at the same stream.

I would love to see a solid, peer reviewed study proving that violent videogames also makes people violent.

I don't know for sure. All I know is that the AMF (Autorité des Marchés Financiers, Quebec "equivalent" of the SEC) froze Dominic Lacroix assets on Jun 13 2017[0]. Yet, his employees were still getting paid and he launched Plexcoin even if a court order was forbidding him to do so.

Maybe the AMF had information about accounts in USA and tipped the SEC?

More information: The court order preventing him to launch Plexcoin was issued on July 20[1]. He did not comply­ and was charged for court contempt in September. The court found him guilty on oct 17 2017[2].

At first they were even using Visa logo, promising a Visa card that would use Plexcoins. They never even contacted Visa.

A redditor eventually warned Visa about this and they required Plexcorp / DL Innov / Dominic Lacroix to remove all mention of Visa.
