Just a guess, but in that case, very few people really knew who those lawmakers were, and there wasn't camera footage of the murder in that case to be spread virally on social media.

I blame the Oblivion remake
My favorite Carter story was when he was out on a fishing boat and there was a swamp rabbit that aggressively approached his boat. Carter used his paddle to shoo it away. He told his advisers about it, but they didn't believe him. But a White House photographer was taking pictures of the trip at the time and captured the rabbit in the picture. Of course, the press blew it out of proportion and used it to mock/attack Carter.

For those that have seen Monty Python and the Holy Grail, I've always recreationally believed that the 'killer rabbit' in that movie was the same rabbit that went after Carter in his fishing boat.

Rest in Peace, Jimmy.
Games on a surface level used to be somewhat simpler, but man, I pine for the days of games that wouldn't waste your time with long intro segments and just let you enjoy what it had to offer right from the get go.
Classic Seinfeld moment - for those that haven't seen it:
Oh man, this is a lot of fun

When did that sad-face blue screen start? I'm thinking it was Windows 8
I've been using a MacBook Pro 2015 for a while now for my personal stuff - it's been nothing but reliable for everything from programming to surfing the web to DJ mixing. Just recently, the battery cycles exceeded normal usage and I got a notification from the system that the 'Battery should be replaced soon' - almost as soon as this happened, I experienced random slowdowns, freezing, etc just doing low-intensity tasks like browsing this site. Open up Activity Monitor and find that the 'kernel_task' is absolutely throttling my CPU. Long story short, this particular MacBook Pro had a battery recall and Apple replaced mine for free - worked just like new after that, which I'm grateful for since it's basically the best laptop I've ever used.
There's actually a growing subgenre of horror videogames that utilize this aesthetic to great effect. It's mostly an "indie" thing right now, but heck, the most recent prominent example I can think of is Puppet Combo's 'Murder House' game, which looked and played like a '90s PS1 horror title, tank controls and all, and yet it was still scarier and spookier and than Resident Evil's latest triple A title.
Here's the Steam page if anyone is interested in what it looks like:
EA will keep his name and they'll continue to make a boatload of money with each yearly release while making the minimum amount of fan-requested changes with the least effort possible.
This is literally my biggest issue with the game. Man, in retrospect, playing it now, the change barrels were so obnoxious of a concept when they could've allowed the player to switch Kongs at any given time.
The whole album was supposed to be a play on a pirate radio station if memory serves, and a damn good one at that. Probably my favorite Who album honestly (besides Live at Leeds, of course).
From upper New England, been here my whole life - can confirm "Being pissed" always means being angry.
Oof. A lot of truth here.
At least we are self-aware and can have a laugh at ourselves.
Curious, is Jim Cramer generally respected by the crowd that frequents HN?
This is a great little collection, thank you!
Yeah, I gotta say, I don't want to feel obligated to open up an app to tap into the consciousness cloud every day to see how my "dead" parents are doing.
Color me curious, how did they figure out that you were the one responsible? IP address?
Not a bad idea, but definitely would be difficult to enforce. I think to enforce it, we'd need an international body of regulators and international agreements to abide by them - and we'd have to get countries to agree to it. What would be the benefit to a country like China to join?
This doesn't make sense to me. Why would humoring the idea that it came from a lab be "racist"? Did anyone with a real platform and influence ever make that claim? What would make the idea that it came from a Chinese lab more racist than the idea that it was spread because Chinese people have strange and unsafe wet markets where they trade and eat strange and gross (to us Westerners) animals?
Sure, but I still don't know if this answers the question. A year ago, we didn't have hard evidence that the virus had a zoonotic origin either (and we still don't). And yet, news media and social media companies actively suppressed those who even wanted to discuss the very real possibility that the virus came from a lab, branding them as conspiracy theorists and peddlers of misinformation.
Well it looks like this one got flagged. But why?
Perhaps they can opt out if they know how to fork bomb without looking it up
I believe this is the article in question.

I think most peoples' negativity here is not towards the idea that it can be useful for quick Google searches, but rather that it has become a place that doesn't foster or encourage productive feedback and has become negatively affected by poor moderation. This will, in totality, greatly affect how valuable one appreciates time spent contributing there to be.
Seconded, I too would like resources to learn more about this topic. Spend most of my time with business logic.
Sorry Tom, there's a new sherrif in town.
I think you're thinking of Super Mario Bros. 3.
Perhaps tangential - but what Mercedes models are you referring to? I've driven multiple recent Mercedes, A220, C300, CLA250, and have never had a real problem connecting the bluetooth on my phone. I believe all of these models have had a spin-dial media interface though - I can't stand touchscreen interfaces in cars - totally unintuitive and inconvenient while you're driving.
