It's still faster for the person running up the escalator but for that luxury, we are sacrificing half the capacity of the escalator.

Having another row of people on the left means the overall capacity increases and everyone moves faster but I always walk up the stairs and this won't benefit me one bit. Everyone else wins.

Standing when I'm in a rush can never be faster than walking up the escalator.

I very much didn't intend to offend you, copy you or cause you to be upset.

That homepage design is based on what Udemy looked like before their update and that's why I felt okay to use it as a starting point.

That said, I'll update the homepage for the course today with a new design as a gesture of good faith.

I think the platform itself, not the homepage/sales page is what the people using coursify like. I suspect many of them won't even use that homepage. It's just a starting point.

Again I'm trying to make friends not enemies. Hope I didn't offend you.

We used Moodle at my last University (UON) (transitioned from blackboard) but this is a very lightweight product for a very different purpose (Online courses).

Granted It didn't take too long to build (about 13 weeks in my spare time) but It's actually a lot more work than you might think.

The challenge is not in the "coding" but getting the user experience right.

Beginners cant install this. Someone has to do it for them :).

I created that price plan because I want most people to avoid rushing me to install it for them.

I'm very busy so the peace of mind that most people won't choose that plan is why it's so expensive.

When Udemy decided to start charging 50% of every sale, I needed another way to sell my Online Courses.

I looked at a few self-hosted Online Course platforms, but they all wanted a monthly fee + transaction fees, which I think is excessive.

So I started working on Coursify. With Coursify, you can download it, install it and use it without paying.

If you don't know rails, you can pay me a one-time installation fee and you can use it forever without any more charges from us...

I also released it under the MIT licence, so others can improve on it.

We need a few more Rails developers to mentor our programming students (4-weeks/student).

What you will do?

Reply all the student emails and rails questions for 4 weeks Have an Hour-Long Skype conversation with the student(each week) to correct their projects and for higher-level explanations of concepts they don't understand.

You'll get a generous fee per student and you can take up to 5 students if you have the time.

You don't need to have used rails for 5 years to apply, but you need to be very comfortable with the framework and have enough experience and knowledge to be able to teach it.

How about a model that lets you learn in your own time (free) and have the option of taking the class with a co-hort(for a fee).

The problem with these is... I'm busy.

I might be able to commit 70 hours to the tutorials and assignments this week, and then im busy again for the next 7 weeks.

If they were all completely self paced, then perhaps the completion rates will improve.

The "deadlines" and timetabled classes are being carried over from traditional college courses without any real need for them to be.

I have taught many "technologically challenged" people how to code. They say cute things like

... okay so how do I "compress" this file

... i used that "tag thingie" but its not working

but they still learn it and are able to build websites sometimes even faster then the "technologically exposed".

In general technologically challenged doesn't mean stupid. Its just a lack of exposure to the technologies and in time they get the hang of it.

Its not just about reading, its about thinking on your feet and being able to find solutions to problems.

Spend time around a lot of different people from different fields and always ask questions. They have alot to teach you, but you wont learn anything from them if you dont give them a chance to talk.

You'll be surprised how much stuff "ordinary people" know if you give them a chance to talk.

Do a lot of Math and calculus and try to solve complex coding problems.

Build things, release, get feedback and repeat. The experience will surely increase your intelligence understanding, awareness and your ability to recognise patterns.
