Google is rejecting it to ensure incoming messages aren't spam. SHOULD means "you should do this unless you have a really, really good reason not to." Do they have a good reason not to? It doesn't seem so, meaning Viva is in the wrong here.

I already pay for Google One storage, so it's the cheapest of the paid LLMs for me. That's 99% of the reason I use it, and honestly I don't really have any strong opinions on it compared to ChatGPT. It's about the same level, and with new models constantly being released for all the different LLMs I've kind of lost track of what it's particularly good or bad at compared to others.

A lot of old nicknames don't really make a lot of sense at first glance. The short answer is rhyming slang, and the long answer is there simply used to be a lot less names in English that were acceptable and commonly used. So, for instance, Richard being shortened to "Rick" is pretty straightforward, but you probably knew several Richards and Ricks, and you want to call them different names. So instead of Rick, you call them by a rhyming nickname, in this case "Dick." The same is true of "Rob" being short for "Robert," but "Bob" was too. Because "Bob" rhymes with "Rob".

One of the oddest in this vein is Peggy, which is short for Margaret. Because Margaret would get shortened to Meg, and then rhymed with Peg, and then somehow lengthened back again to Peggy. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What is the deal with Gukesh's last name? It's officially listed as just D on his FIDE profile. I asked a couple Indian coworkers who said it was probably just being abbreviated for being long, but honestly it's not that long of a name and Gukesh isn't from the same region as them. I've read elsewhere that Telugu speaking people don't really use last names.

The apostrophe here most likely represents a glottal stop (as in Hawai'i).

We've also seen instances where visible "clumping" in a galactic disc correspond to differences in the rotation curves, which dark matter can't really explain. But this is still a topic of much debate.

However, there's lots of good evidence for dark matter besides rotation curves of galaxies. For instance, models of galactic formation work a lot better with it than without it (without dark matter, as galaxies coalesce, they get hot and the pressure keeps the gas apart and makes star formation really hard).

We also see the Bullet Cluster, where two galaxies collided/passed through each other. The gas and dust has been slowed down from collisions, but the dark matter has passed right through. We know this from the gravitational lensing. The lensing happens around the mass of the galaxy, but with the bullet cluster, the lens is off to the side where there is no normal matter, because the dark matter kept going when the regular matter slowed down.

In other words, we have some really good evidence for dark matter, but there's a few things going on here and there we can't explain.

Google's RCS encryption scheme isn't really proprietary, it's the Signal e2ee scheme. Granted, it's bolted into RCS and not part of the standard, but it's not 100% closed either. It's like a standard added to another standard in a nonstandard way.

On my corporate laptop, I only have Edge and Chrome installed, and I run Edge by choice. I like the horizontal (I meant vertical!) tabs. At home it's Firefox. I guess I mostly just don't want to use Chrome :D
