Earth Wallet | Engineering & Design | Earth / Remote | https://earthwallet.io

Hello Hacker News!

Earth Wallet is a startup that's building cutting-edge decentralized technology to take on the centralized tech giants. Our mission is to create a more fair and transparent digital ecosystem where individuals and communities have control over their identities, media, and financial assets.

We're looking for passionate and talented individuals to join our core team and help us launch a new decentralized social network. Here are some of the roles we're currently hiring for:

Head of Design: You'll create great human experiences for the decentralized web, ensuring healthier humans on Earth instead of optimizing for 'user engagement' and destroying the mental health of the human race.

Head of Engineering: You'll utilize your exceptional engineering skills to create the most secure and dependable products and services in the market. You'll be responsible for continuously refining and enhancing our technology and security infrastructure to ensure that we remain at the forefront of industry best practices, and continuously exceeds the expectations of the market.

If you're passionate about building a better digital future and want to work on cutting-edge decentralized technology, we'd love to hear from you. Please send your resume and a brief introduction to careers@earthwallet.io.

If anyone is interested in trying to help solve "the social dilemma" (www.thesocialdilemma.com), collaborators is the right type of people we're looking to work with. The project has just been announced and you can learn more here:

https://social.network

We won't compete against facebook and other big tech compensation because we aren't planning to exploit peoples data, democratic systems, etc. for money. But if you are a talented engineer who wants to apply their skills to something bigger than making money, consider collaborating with us.

Yeah I think it's a major transition for both employees and employers to figure out where to go from here. I suspect the best thing for people looking for new work is to find something that matches your values. As a startup founder, I started Earth Wallet around these core values - Creating a Better Planet, Innovating & Evolving, and Trust & Respect.

If anyone believes in these values, we offer a flexible, remote-friendly lifestyle, with two meetups a year at cool places like Bali, Greece, Costa Rica, Barbados, and adding new ones as time goes on! So if you're a developer looking for a new way of working in the decentralization space, feel free to reach me at developers@earthwallet.io!

Social Technologies | https://social.network | Decentralized, Earth | Full-Time | Remote

Hey everyone, anyone interested in working full time on decentralizing social networks this is your call to action. We are sponsoring top tier corporate engineers to switch to open source, and push development of the protocols that are necessary for decentralization to work at humanity scale. Specifically:

     * Matrix Protocol: Help scale the rust implementation of matrix.org to make it able to handle millions-billions of concurrent users.
     * Substrate Runtime: Build Decentralized Finance and Governance systems to enable the social network to grow and govern itself, without the need for centralized corporations or middlemen selling you ads.
     * IPFS: Scale humanities knowledge by connecting social.network to a global scale distributed file storage built for Web3.
In addition we are also hiring senior front end developers and designers, and there are genesis allocations available for community members to join the community and help us prepare for the upcoming canary network launch!

For more information please email us at hn@social.network or apply to position at https://social.network/jobs.

This is effectively social.network. It’s powered by a decentralized autonomous organization called the Social DAO which is where username registration, governance, and economic incentives are coded. The goal is to change from an ad driven model to one that creates a better society for future generations.

To clarify it wasn't for my thesis but for a nuclear engineering course where we could research whatever. I know not all profs are the same, but generally I do think there is a bit of a herd mentality in academia. My point is that there have been roadblocks for LENR researchers in academia for quite some time, and I hope we can finally remove those.

I dropped out of my masters because my prof basically laughed me out of the room for researching cold fusion/LENR, said it was a waste of time. Good to see unexplained anomalies in Science like this make their way back into the mainstream. We need this kind of science more than ever, no matter how 'crazy' it sounds. Crazy is whatever the hell we were doing the last few decades.

Yeah we will be open sourcing it, mostly the governance/economic model will be built on parity substrate so anyone can deploy or upgrade that system. I think solving the ad driven business model is much more important than decentralizing the content servers, hard to meet the UI/UX standards most people have when you go this route also.

The movie does a great job at explaining the real problem behind our current version of online social networks. We need to start developing much more advanced systems that have the communication tools that Facebook and Instagram have, but also innovate on the financial markets/governance systems that the most advanced nation states have.

The is the only way out of this problem is to accept that governments and regulators are not going to be able to fix this, and create a new one that is owned by the people. And as you see from the movie, the chances of us hitting singularity with an AI coupled to an optimization function that domesticates humans for profit, is highly likely. It's probably one of the greatest challenges of our generation, and the hardest part is that over time the people you need to change the system are so addicted to the crack that it gives them, that they won't want to.

I do think movies like this are extremely important on getting the message out though, and hope that it enacts some changes. Me and a few engineers are working on a solution at social.network, let me know if you are interested in helping out.

The world is spending an increasing amount of time contributing to centralized online social networks with business models that promote mass surveillance, increasing amounts of data collections, growing inequality, and behavioural/political influence on an scale which the world has never before seen. Help fix that.

We have built out our POC and are now looking for engineers and scientists who are able to execute the vision at a global scale.

Open Roles:

- Devops & SRE (Ansible/Terraform/K8s)

- Designers (UI/UX)

- Backend developer (Rust/GraphQL/Postgres/Parity Substrate)

- Mobile developer (React Native)

- Marketing/Growth

Requirements:

- Understanding of the problem with and passionate about fixing society, economics, governance

- Extensive engineering experience with world class projects to prove it

- Someone who leads by example, executes efficiently, and doesn't waste time arguing when they could be hacking

ICOs and VCs 9 years ago

The key is to find a way to contractualize third party help into a smart contract so some of the tokens are released if the advice truly helps in the long run.

Or perhaps Facebook will decide to adopt the Solid protocol, which would imho be the single greatest thing Zuckerberg could do. Even better than donating all of his money.

So you guys literally milked ideas and and code in the guise of teaching the students only to spin up another business. I loved the whole MOOC idea until it was ambushed and hijacked by people running all manner of fluffy positions.

As someone enrolled in the course, I don't think this is a very fair judgement. The TAs genuiunely seem there to help. I'm actually happy that Oliver decided to do this and wouldn't mind if more did it, more employment opportunities!

The whole system is now bent on profiteering with marketing staff fabricating fancy outcomes and guarantees to lure people to sign up for the paid version of the course.

Oh, you mean like traditional universities? $2400 doesn't look so bad when you compare it to grad school somewhere that would teach this stuff.
