Do you use it with a dictionary? I like the full 1 GB English wiktionary loaded in Aard2 on my Boox. It has etymology and can look up Latin and other non-English words. But I imagine it may be too heavy for a ESP32 device..

I think it depends. In developing countries, ecotourism even when poorly managed is better for conservation than uncontrolled fishing/farming.

I was recently traveling on a local bus near the Amazon and an indigenous family sitting in front of me were eating a local snack. When they finished, they opened the window and threw out the plastic wrappers.

At first I couldn't understand how someone who lives so close to nature could do something like that. But then I realized that when the parents were kids, those snacks were probably wrapped in banana leaves, not plastic, so discarding the leaves on the ground would have been perfectly natural thing to do.

Have have you been to many countries in Asia recently?

Spitting is still super common in many cities, especially in India. I've had a few taxi drivers who would open their door periodically to spit on the ground (and no they weren't chewing anything).

Hopefully the process is sped up with the rapid increase in Indians traveling internationally, and they'll start to realize and feel embarrassment/shame at the state of cleanliness in their own country.

You're just describing different ways of learning concepts. Learning from lived experience and learning from reading the experience of the others are both valid.

AI is doing a lot more than just regurgitating facts. It can take abstract concepts and apply them reasonably well in novel scenarios.

To make things more concrete, how about you name a specific concept that you believe a frontier model can't grasp?

In what way does a human author "understand the meaning" that AI does not?

Just because a brain is made from organic material rather than silicon, doesn't make it less of a prediction machine.

So you're implying AI is incapable of producing meaningful output? Have you not used models from the last few years?

I see a few comments about wasting time with AI. I'm curious what the gist of those conversations is about?

I've found AI to be incredibly useful as a tool to nurture intellectual curiosity.

It even improves my book reading experience. Before, when I didn't fully understand a technical detail the author had glossed over, I usually had to skip it, hoping it wasn't critical for understanding later topics. Now, I can get precise explanations for anything I didn't understand in whatever level or detail I require.

Why does it matter whether the writing is AI generated or not?

You should always be critical of everything you read. I have stopped reading plenty of books after a few chapters when I realized there was little value in it for me.

Maybe Latin America. Their governments are generally less powerful and have less resources to enforce laws like this.

Why just western kids? Cell phone and tablet use by little kids in Asia is on a whole other level.

In the US, it seems more obvious how corporate money pulls the political strings, but my impression is that corporate influence is a lot weaker in Europe..
