I'm not sure I the Tamagotchi deserves a place on here.

Did anything really kill it? It was kind of just a fad in the late 90s and its still around, not as popular as its fad stages but still reasonably popular. We just got back from Japan last week, there is a newly opened "Tamagotchi Factory" shop which was packed. The kids each picked up one of the latest versions and have been playing with them every day.

I came from dealing with various node / ruby / python versions across multiple projects where I used nvim / rbenv and some python manager. Miss is nice as you can just switch to it and not relearn anything, it just works with the old configs.

I haven’t tried make with our setup but nix was too much of a hassle. Especially when some projects required old versions of libraries across dev (macOS) and staging/prod for various Linux OS.

I had this exp too, but I trialed the pro sub a few weeks back and it has been great. I have no complaints this time

Not sure about stress, but definitely have the same exp re sleep. If I’m tired the ringing is very noticeable, when I wake up early after a late night it can be deafening. But besides from noticing it being “louder” it seems to go away, or I just ignore it.

I loved GTA II and spent hours playing it when I was about 14 or so. I don't recall keeping up with III's development at all and I remember seeing it popup on Kazaa one day, in an exe not much over 100mb. I was expecting another top down addition to the series and my mind was blown. Not only that it was this massive 3d game, but that someone had managed to compress it all down to such a small package.

Gemini has been fantastic for me the last month or so.

Ugh it annoys me so much that the desktop etc is all in one drive without me setting it that way. But then there is still a desktop/documents directory in the usual spot under your profile, just the files don’t appear if you actually look at the desktop.

It’s a fantastic feature and works really well, my problem is I can never invest the required time to learn the interface. It all falls apart when I need to switch modes to move something or whatever. With scad can usually knock whatever I want together pretty quickly without having to relearn how to use the tool.

Our Magna tiles get so much use. I should really buy the kids some more.

And that Modu stuff looks so cool, I’ve never seen that before.

Also AI could also generate some code to enable the artists to make their own unique games. There will be loads of creative types out there who can unlock some neat concepts with AI support

Yeah that part was amazing. It was 2006, I'd softmoded the Xbox with the Splinter Cell hack. I had 2MBs ADSL capped @ 10GB for international data but unlimited national. I was in a NZ only private tracker to take advantage of that and then the icing on the cake, streaming the multi volume rar files straight to the TV. It really was magic.

I had a similar script a few years ago when I refused to give up my aging Macbook Air and built a server to host my dev env. I had an rsync command that would sync the differences from my local machine up to the remote box. It was surprisingly quick considering the size of the projects.

We have quite a few road side stalls like this around where I live in NZ, Honey, eggs, swedes are a common one. You hear of the odd theft from them every now and then but for the most part it seems to work well.

I started to notice this in a big way at my last job which I started in 2013. We were a rails shop and by about 2016 I was noticing most new hires would have no idea how to write a SQL query.

I use Joplin. I made a little extension which generates a file with Monday's date and then the days + dates as headers.

On Monday I copy anything I still want from the previous week and then just jot down notes as I go.

The UX is a complete fail, my comment having a moan about it all has over 90 upvotes now, yet I'm wrong. But the reason I'm wrong is because they've made it painfully hard to manage.

Another commenter has just pointed out that this is actually possible in the YT Kids app now. You can select approved channels and Bluey Live is one of them. I still need to see if I can approve other channels though.

Hmmm I'll check it out, I last looked into this about a year ago. I'm pretty sure it still allowed a bunch of crap through that I didn't want them to have access to.

edit: Oh neat they do have a parental approval mode in there now. Last time I was in here they only let you set an age range for the content that you wanted. It still seems a bit weird though, I can select a channel from the list they are presenting me but I can't search for some arbitrary channel to unlock. I'll have another look tonight though

Yeah its a weird one, the lack of this feature is whats making me stop giving them money and I wonder how many other families are in the same boat.

I don't really understand why Youtube won't let me create a profile, on my paid family account that I'm paying $29 NZD a month for, which lets me whitelist channels.

I'm happy for my kids to have free access to certain channels on youtube, but the mind numbing shorts, and shit they find on random channels just does my head in. And it seems to be getting worse, I'm not sure if its that they are getting older and able to search for more content or if the content is just getting worse, maybe both, but I'm probably just going to cancel the sub so they at least have to put up with terrible ads if they try to access it.

Yeah I begrudgingly paid increase when it went from $19 to $29 NZD a month. My friend in Aus just got an email saying they were putting his up to $39 from $29 a month… it’s not worth that to me. If anything it’s a great excuse to watch less on there.
