sorry all, i took a month off and then opened github.com
Founders of Stripe, AirBnb, Coinbase, DoorDash, Reddit, GitLab might disagree
Merry Christmas, hands free internet!
Its a great example of how to use design systems
another quick point, if customers are happy paying for the lifetime offer, maybe you can raise prices for the Enterprise offering
Personally, I'd drop the lifetime access pretty quickly and bank on the fact that customers will renew for a quality product/service.
Last thing you want is an income time bomb in 3 years where your most active and loyal customers no longer need to pay.
Maybe an alternative could be to offer free months subscription and a tshirt for every successful recommendation
Its like paying to be a second class citizen! :)
Apparently, this.
apologies, yes i believe its a fork
VIM = OG
NVIM = A fully compatible re-write with focus on better scripting (lua), performance etc
GUIs = Alternative for using VIM/NVIM inside a terminal, with better optimisation for performance, smooth scrolling, animations etc (e.g MacVim, Neovide etc)
Wow, its in 2 hours.. that's Blazingly fast
Could be an interesting marketing approach for a Security/Pen Test SaaS.. Heres a vulnerability, pay for our service and we'll provide a full report.
its a shame they didn't move to having a CC linked to the account, and keeping the free dyno tier
At a guess, there are a few things which "could" be working against you:
- Leadership at certain companies can include a lot of people management, and so being in a team of one possibly does make the case for progression in the eyes of HR.
- The company isn't big enough to facilitate career progression for everyone.
- The project may be seen as innovative, but possibly something that will be absorbed into the best practices of all teams over the coming years, and so there may be less of a case to promote anyone in the team because of this. (this is where you need to read between the lines a little, as PO's will omit plans like this for obvious reasons)
- Unknowns.. the people who briefly worked on the team may have raised concerns during 1-1's / exit interviews that you're unaware of.
The best advice i could give is to leave any frustration at the door during the next few months, and keep an eye open for you're dream role at another company.
First they copy our intellectual property, and now our flossing techniques!
Me too, although if its a lightweight helper you can ditch down the line its normally not an issue
Switched to GCP Cloud Run.. but do miss the Heroku CLI sometimes
time to make a coffee
Seems like a cool idea until i read "A 3% service fee is applied".
To be fair, the previous names were also jokes like Gobble Gobble / Trick of Treat etc, so i wouldn't assume its something to be taken seriously!

Being 40 shouldn't be an issue, however there are a few things to keep asking yourself to stay relevant on the way:
-- What is your goal?
If you don't know where you're going, the chances are your career trajectory could be plateauing, or even going backwards.
-- Are you progressing?
Pick a metric aligned with your goal and then measure yourself against it (e.g what you can measure, you can manage). Whether its specializing technically or moving vertically into management, its really important to keep moving in that direction, and to ensure that you are "compounding" your skills and successes along the way.
-- Are your skills transferable?
At all costs, ensure your skills are transferable. This will give you endless options and freedom to take breaks and move companies at will. NEVER allow yourself be the highly paid person on an obsolete project/system, not even for a year.
Site down :-)
Lots of people want their key discipline to be the centre of the universe, you see it across designers, content creators, engineers, testers etc.. The key to any team in my experience is to have a healthy mixture of specialists (narrow scope, high resolution) and polyglots (wide scope, lower resolution), and to promote collaboration as much as possible..
I've used encfs with google drive for about 3 years now, I would love to see better client-side encryption tools out there targeted at cloud storage, but cannot see where CryFS offers much over encfs in this space.
Im not surprised tbh, I've had 2 defective Jawbone Up's and the first took approx 12 months for a refund to be issued. Also had a defective jambox product. I think ultimately the product quality was not there, and they got found out in the marketplace.
Absolutely. Not using mutable variables as default arguments = 91%
If they dropped the "Pro" and the price, it would totally make sense to me. However, with the lack of recent investment in OS X, dropping of Thunderbolt line (i still hope this isn't real) and way too much over focus on the apple watch, its clear apple just wants another iphone/ipad style product, and they're running serious risk of losing power users at a point where microsoft has massively upped their game.
I love ORMs, they help abstract the database technology which has been really useful in a recent project switching an app from MSSQL to PostgreSQL. I also personally as developer appreciate the programmatic syntax.
I would caveat the performance issue, sometimes there is no better way, however i would always try to make things work in the ORM first before switching into native SQL to get the job done.
They also use 2FA i believe.. but then it makes logging in a right pain the ass for customers: 1) track down your massive identity number 2) enter 2nd, 5th, 8th characters of your password 3) locate your 2FA code from the HSBC device they send.
