I really wish that there was a product that tags the LLM's thinking steps to the code that it's generating or modifying. Comments aren't sufficient as it's hard to track them across edits. Think something along comments in Google Docs: "I modified this block to prevent a race condition." That would help me understand what the model is doing way better.

One of my best hires ever was a VR dev we brought in as an intern. He became the backbone of our Unity/Unreal work, including some genuinely gnarly low-level haptics integration into the physics engine. On paper he didn’t look like the “obvious” pick: he’d majored in English Literature, largely because his (UK) school’s CS track was taught in a way that turned him off (they were still doing Fortran…). But he could build.
After our startup, Improbable scooped him up on the strength of that very real, shippable experience, and he’s now a senior SWE at Epic, doing exactly what he loves.
One practical thing that’s helped me find these kinds of people in startup interviews: optimize for calm + realism. My #1 goal is to get the candidate relaxed enough that I can see how they actually think and code. I often ask them to bring any public code they’ve written and we walk through it together. It’s a great way to surface judgment, taste, and real ownership that don’t show up on a resume.

Meshcore seems like a much better choice for messaging in dense-node environments. I tried to set up a Meshtastic network for my Burning Man camp this year, and since default builds have historically been crippled by retransmits, we made a concerted effort to give camps their own frequency slots.
While that ensured campmates could communicate, it unfortunately isolated us from the wider network—you had to choose one or the other. Also, regarding the UI: if you think Meshcore is bad, Meshtastic is worse. I spent most of my time teaching people how to navigate the clunky, overcomplicated, and inconsistent mobile apps. I’ll likely try building a custom app on top of Meshcore for this year.
Agreed. Ran the comms for my burning man camp and everyone kept getting confused with the channels mess among other usability issues. I like where Mesh core is going, just wish the repeater nodes could run on gateway hardware so they don’t become the choke point with a half-duplex radio (bs like 8 full duplex channels on the RAK wireless gateway)
For the Camera? You don't want to know, it's a PDF that's in Chinese that for a C++ SDK in Linux!

I got excited reading this thinking this can help me with the SDK for a stereodepth camera I'm working with only but read then reading it's for the Next.js stack :sob: On a separate note I like the retro DOS feel. Will probably look at this again properly when I build out the web side of my RaaS offering.
Please have an option for local processing. I would love to be able to use my locally running Gemma 3n model on my phone for low latency and for them to work without internet connectivity.

It's interesting to see this discussion about Kyrgyzstan. As someone originally from there, I find it a country of contrasts. Officially, the GDP per capita is quite low (around $1,970 in 2023), which paints a picture of widespread poverty. However, this figure doesn't always reflect the full reality, as many people, particularly outside the capital, rely heavily on subsistence farming. It's common for families to grow a significant portion of their own fruits and vegetables, and sometimes raise livestock, which contributes to a degree of self-sufficiency that statistics might miss.
That said, experiences can vary, especially for visitors. In the capital, Bishkek, tourists might unfortunately encounter opportunistic behavior. There have been instances where police officers have been known to stop foreigners and effectively extort money. This is a serious issue and something visitors should be aware of.
On the other hand, the country offers incredibly unique and positive experiences, especially when you get out into nature. I have vivid memories of hiking in places like Ala Archa National Park. You can be trekking through a valley, thinking you're completely alone, and then stumble upon a traditional nomadic family spending their summer there. These encounters feel worlds away from anything I've experienced in Western countries. I recall one time offering to buy kumis (a traditional fermented mare's milk drink) from a nomad, and he genuinely refused to take any money for it, simply offering it as a gesture of hospitality. These moments highlight a different, very memorable side of Kyrgyzstan."
I happen to be from Kyrgyzstan (but now live in the SF Bay Area). While eagle hunting is fascinating, it's not unique to Kyrgyzstan and is often practiced in Kazakhstan and Mongolia (possibly Tajikistan and Uzbekistan). There was a fascinating documentary about a Mongol girl who went into this sport that is traditionally considered a man's sport (The Eagle Huntress, 2016)

This is exciting, I've been looking/hoping for something like this for a while but all the options I've come across so far were lackluster. I have just tried setting it up with the iOS and Windows apps, I do not see an option to point it to a self-hosted server at all, am I missing something?
Same, good experience, with the Meross Homekit capable garage opener. I do like that it’s a wired setup, which us more secure (I just erased all the paired radio openers). My only gripe is that I have Apple Watch Series 3 and the resent forced upgrade of the Home app means I can bo longer control anything from my watch which sucks!
I'm impressed with this project! I built something similar a couple of years ago but it wasn't as polished. This is a prime example of a well-executed open-source hardware (OSHW) project.
I also noticed, like others here, that the tracker's size is a problem. My cat managed to remove the collar with my smaller tracker in just two minutes. I've been considering designing an even more compact tracker, integrating it into the collar itself. It would include a battery, GPS, LoRa with an antenna, and a microcontroller with power management. I'd use a small Heltec LoRa+Bluetooth transceiver for this.

Great to see that you're still exploring hardware, Eric! I'm definitely planning to get one of these, but as some others have mentioned, I might attempt to convert it into a LoRa peer-to-peer communicator. Currently, I rely on MestTastic relays, which can be quite cumbersome due to the need for an iPhone or Android device.
So I’ve matched with 2 cofounders on there. And while I think finding a good cofounder is inherently hard, I’d say it’s the best platform that I’ve seen. It’s similar to relationship dating I guess.
One of the questions that I would add though, is whether the founder is married to a solution or is in search of a problem. First co-founder I worked with was great overall but he was married to a solution, that after talking to prospective users, I realized nobody really wanted.

Locomotion is a hard problem to solve, I can't find the source but a study in 2018 found that about 18% of people feel nauseous in VR. The headsets have improved significantly since then and there are many tricks a vr dev can use to make the VR experience less nauseating such as vignetting on move.
