As someone who makes quite a few avatars for myself and friends, there is a flag for NSFW when publishing your avatars to VRChat's servers as well as ones for realistic violence, gore and such. I'm unaware of what impact these flags have for the use of said avatars though.

I have tested a fully SFW avatar with the NSFW flag checked in the past and I was able to use it just fine inside private and public lobbies so what we actually need here is a way for either world creators and/or lobby visibility settings to restrict what avatar flags are allowed within the current session of that lobby, as well as the ability for users to auto hide/show avatars with specific flags checked.

This wont be bullet proof as this relies heavily on user based trust (which VRChat have a long history of being against) and someone can very easily reverse what I did and mark a heavily NSFW avatar as SFWto bypass such filters, but it will be a good start for limiting exposure to these avatars.

Just a small correction here. Millions of people use the Fediverse.

Whilst Mastodon brands itself as it's own platform, it's really just one of the many freely available solutions that are used to socialise on the fediverse.

It's a shame that they seem to make an effort to hide this fact when other solutions such as Pleroma and Misskey make it very clear what the Fediverse actually is and that you can use a vast array of software to connect to it.

As someone who has also been running a Misskey server for a little while, I've observed that whilst the resouce usage is a little higher than other federation softwares such as Pleroma, the stability is amazing, even on the development branch.

There are some features missing however that I've grown accustomed to. Functionality that I quite often find myself using on a Pleroma based installation such as leaving internal comments on reports, easily being able to mark posts and media as sensitive and different levels of instance specific blocks (media removal, hidden from public timelines, follow only) are either hidden or not implemented as of yet within Misskey but the development of this software currently seems to be adding in all of the community recommended features that we feel are missing.

Whilst I'm not 100% happy with Misskey in it's current state, I think it's only a matter of time before all of the most popular missing features have been implemented and it become a viable replacement for other more mature fediverse softwares.

A lot of clients that I've worked with will purchase multiple domains for their single website. I always recommend doing a 301 Redirect to the primary domain name with all of the secondary domains.

It's a shame really, I both really want to see the technical details from that post-mortem but, at the same time, I don't want to see such an amazing project go.

I've adopted a naming scheme after Pokemon. My main rig is called Raichu, whilst one of my dedicated servers is called Onix.

The main reasoning behind it was to ensure a large pool of names without having to reuse any from past machines.

Whilst this is a good idea, you can already upload images to Instagram without a dedicated Instagram based plugin. All you have to do is change your browser's user-agent to match that of a mobile device and you will be able to see the mobile version of the website.

These are just notes coming from a person who's day job is to build websites. The website is clean and nice looking, below however are some points that you could consider to make it look and act a lot better.

1) The responsive aspect of the site seriously needs looking into.

2) Non of the images within the "category" section are centered perfectly within the container. They seem to be off to the bottom-right. Some of the spacing's seem to be off with these too between each category.

3) All websites these days should be using SSL. Might be worth investing in a certificate or using a service such as LetsEncrypt.

4) Update your social icons. A lot of them are using out-of-date icons for the networks. Using a service such as Fontawesome would help you out here.

5) I think the footer navigation menu's would look cleaner if they were left aligned. This is just a personal opinion though.

6) Add a search button. Whilst most have learned that pressing enter works just fine, it's still good practice to add a physical button too.

I'm sure changing some of these points would improve your website a lot!

I'm not sure about the FreeBSD Support but OVH and Digital Ocean are both reasonable VPS providers that can help you out in this situation.

I personally use OVH for VPS hosting due to their low costs and near-zero downtime.

It seems to be throwing a 503 error when trying to create a container.

I use OVH VPSs for simple projects as their service is cheap but reliable. Been using them for many years without a hitch. I've also got a dedicated server with SoYouStart which is a connected company to OVH.

I use a service called Kimsufi quite some. They offer cheap Dedicated Servers with up to 2TB of storage.

Very reliable and trustable too since they're owned by OVH.

Please don't describe the website as a "YouTube clone" when it's essentially just loading from YouTube anyway.

Now design wise, it's a nice website design but a lot of the links to pages just don't work such as the copyright link.

I'd recommend ringing your provider and ensuring that you have some form of password on your account. Most providers should allow this and it will make sure that whoever is calling regarding your account will have to mention this password.

This doesn't fully secure your account as some level of social engineering can always be used to circumvent this. This has become apparent in the news when members of the hacking group Lizard Squad apparently pretended to be store employees of the company calling on behalf of the customer.

Securing your phone number is not an easy task as the infrastructure behind providers isn't as secure as it needs to be.

If the machine is running linux, try looking into automating the "certbot renew" command.

I have achieved this with an crontab on my servers that run on a day to day basis. This should automatically renew your certificates if they are close to expiry.
