I have been enjoying PH for awhile - congrats on the launch and getting the word out.

I would say that sometimes it is a little overwhelming to get through every service, and I look forward to a time where you are classifying/organizing the products that come through. Knowing there is a searchable repository of products would be a great resource.

My starting conversation for someone looking for outside help on a project is always; Price, Quality, Time - pick two. This helps guide the conversation as there is usually some limiting factor to the "job" whether its budget, when they need it, or how good the quality has to be.

This is great and hopefully opens up domain listing from folks here on HN. Demand for domains is only increasing, and as someone that handles private buying/selling for startups I see more and more of this need.

This may not be the right place for this, but does anyone know who to contact about a similar instance? I have family members that experienced this and lost a house due to predatory lending practices, but there is little to no recourse or resources out there. If anyone has information about the Bank of America/Countrywide issues I would like to know about them.

I learned about this before and this made me explicitly modify settings for blogs I have. I turned it on for two small projects and I would be happy to share results in a month if anyone wants to see (unless thats against TOS)

I think the site looks great. Kudos for giving the actual use case of the app with showing instead of telling. I think its a great overview of what you offer.

I am curious as to why you have so many monthly price points - I would have expected 3 for simplicity (or even 1 if you were so bold)

I don't have perfect clarity into the "buyers" of these servies, and maybe its as simple as them needed this level of options.

Most do (some do not) but it was the lack of explanation and the fact that its $200 that stopped me in my tracks.

I had signed up some time ago and forgot that my invite showed up this past July. Upon going through the process of creating an account, the final step was to deposit $200-$500 into the account.

I understand the need to get funds, but with the time energy and passion devoted towards the ease of use of the form and the comprehensive FAQ I could not find the answer as to why this minimum was required.

All the comments here are interesting, and I understand that switching costs are high, but the $200 barrier without explanation made be bounce from the form.

I really want to give this a shot, but I want to understand the required funds first.

Did anyone else try out and use Yammer for awhile and then ultimately switch away from it or off it it in favor of another tool or just back to email?

Creation (via this studios play) and distribution (via Prime) are making Amazon well positioned in the content wars.

Incorporated a newco this year (webvio.com) which is the first new entity in awhile. Its a labs project with our first launch of todayskicks.com so far.

The issue with this method is that it assumes that the investor model has to change too. VC's will attempt to have the right ownership over the lifetime of an investment eventually getting to around 20%. Some want 20% right away. The problem with granting so much equity to employees makes the rounds of funding required later difficult to match this ownership target.

Investors want founders with meaningful ownership of the business, a syndicate that owns enough to care, and employees happy too. That is where the model is driven from, and would require a change at the investor level for this to work.

Assuming 2 investors (40%) 2 founders (40%) that leaves only 20% remaining which does not fit the proposed changes.

In 1999 I worked for a startup and was about to go to college. I was asked by the CEO to drop out of school and get a huge salary - I opted not to take the option and go to school instead. Turned out to be the right choice as they were out of business 6 mos. later.

This is great. I had a feeling what it would do from the description and the name and it lived out to that promise. I think its a great start for a "weekend" project and would love to see where it goes and give some product feedback if you are up for it. Will try to contact you directly.

I think it would have been great if they allowed pre-orders 5 years ago too. I could have sworn I heard of this happening but perhaps not.

I was thinking that it will be a Beatles announcement too. It seems like nobody will care, but at this point it has been scrutinized by so many folks that it has become a bigger deal.

This is actually quite nice because it allows permalinks to the lightbox items. This makes for a rough browsing experience if you need to go back, but I like the detail that lets you link somewhere that someone can actually find in the future vs. "go to this page, then click here, etc...."

I can tell you that we are heavily engineering group, but also looking for Product Managers, Community folks, and client developers (iPhone etc)

Its a great place to work and we are solving some exciting problems in the location space.

I used to watch a ton. Then once I felt like I saw everything I could I stopped. I have no new source or way of getting new things recommended but feel like if I shared my likes and movies I enjoyed, someone with great knowledge could make suggestions on what to get. I do not have NetFlix (I know, im the last one) so I do not have a central point of movie taste graph setup.

This is really great to hear! The community here has really been great to me as well and the thoughtfulness and quality of answers is really remarkable.

Yikes. It definitely appears that way at first glance, but this is my own blog (I suffer from having a name domain vs. my own name) The issue is that this topic came up with a bunch of people who frequent hacker news and they told me it was a valid topic and encouraged me to write it up. It ended up generating good commentary both on my own site and on HN. Its a subjective call, and hopefully one that can be rectified once the situation is fully understood.

This is a great idea. The problem with leaderboards and points is a network effect that is not currently there yet. Its a chicken or the egg problem that exists, and we tried to get something out that didn't require mass participation but rather had a strong single player game model. Now that we have some scale (tiny!) this may be a good thing to try

To reinforce this point, we did not have core competency to build an iPhone app and wanted to keep the project bootstrapped. Given the feedback here it seems an app would in fact make a big difference.

Seems very similar to our basic design and usability at Eat.ly, but I think I understand the use case. Would love to connect if you are interested in speaking further - couldn't find your contact info via profile, so throwing this out there publicly.

I have been working on a health\food tracking site www.eat.ly as well as one other unlaunched project.

A simple blog project that has been going well is www.multiplayergames.com which is in need of some buddypress\wordpressMU and design help, but since it continues to perform well I am hesitant to change anything.

Outside of those a handful of other smaller projects:)
