Cat's out of the bag. There is no legislation that will stop this. Not unless/until it has some obscene cost and AI gets locked down like nuclear weapons. But even then, it's just too simple to make these things now that the tech is known.
I sure don't know the answer but we just don't know what's coming next. Gonna have to wait and see.

The old version of "actions not having consequences" was not getting caught. It can be enriching to rebel a little and get away with stuff. A lot of people grow into perfectly healthy adults and look back fondly on the stunts they pulled. Personally, I don't want my kids using any drugs but I don't think the answer is to put cameras in their rooms or supervising every play date until they're 26.
Perhaps the sensible solution is to make sure there is no system where children are getting legal charges for drug use. What an incredibly stupid system. They're kids. They are supposed to be making mistakes and learning from them in low-impact environments until they're old enough to be more responsible for their actions.
I am not surprised that kids have moved their social lives online.
Well, it sounds like the numbers were just being artificially inflated in the first place. Now they're being brought down to match reality.
Side note, I don't really see how advertising can possibly be useful in this medium. We all just skip them, right? Even when I don't, I can't say I've ever purchased something mentioned on a podcast.
Companies usually do better year after year until they reach market saturation or until the competition kills them.
Once one of those things happens, they start to squeeze blood from the stone. The quality of the product drops, the prices are inflated, jobs are outsourced or eliminated, they pivot into providing other goods and services (which will also get worse later), etc.
None of these things are mutually exclusive with that "next quarter" mindset.
I actually blame the stock market for a lot of this. Private companies can, in theory, settle for just making a nice profit year after year. As long as they come out profitable they don't need to expand. Once you're publicly traded though, you have no choice but constant expansion.
The boom and bust cycle has been happening for a long time now.

I wouldn't call monogamy unnatural. But it may be a more recent invention for humans. We still aren't sure how long it's been the norm.
It's possible that humans used to rape more often. It's also possible that humans practiced forms of polygamy. Either way, cooperative sperm makes sense. It's one of those things where a simple mutation would provide a clear benefit over the competition.

I also think people might not care that much. They'll have an even more sophisticated and oversaturated version of the internet and I'm thinking they'll only really care about a few big highlights from our time. Whatever is contained in the Wikipedia page for Reddit, Twitter, and Facebook will probably be enough for most future people.

Diabetic mother-in-law is on it. Lost a ton of weight, is moving around better, and when I saw her over the holidays last week I felt she was mentally sharper than before.
My wife has been worried about her mental acuity declining over the last few years and I kept saying I felt like the diabetes was taking a toll on her brain. Perhaps it was? And perhaps it's slowly reversing a bit?
I love tons of strange rappers. I think what rubs me the wrong way about Kosher is that he feels inauthentic in several ways.
A supposedly Jewish rapper talking about killing people and embracing that lifestyle seems weird to me. The fact that he looks awkward and uncomfortable when he tries to somewhat dance to the beat strikes me. And the way he speaks also seems very much like a put on. Like he's intentionally trying to speak in a stereotypically black manner but it doesn't come natural to him.
Generally, I get the impression that he's a white skater kid with a shtick. And being Jewish feels like part of that shtick to me.
Happy to be wrong, and I don't hate the guy. I'm not going to go around knocking people for liking him. But it does feel like something you like in middle school and then grow out of, only to go back and wonder why you enjoyed it.

The only reason I sometimes hesitate to agree with this line of thinking is precisely because we have the ability to think about free will at all.
I can take a moment right now to consider whether I want to lift my right hand over my head - to no benefit of my own. I can also consider how free will plays into that and decide to lift my left hand instead, stay with my right hand, or lift no hands at all.
When you have the ability to do that, I think you have free will. At least, you have the closest thing to free will anyone can ever have.

Space exploration could save humanity in so many ways. Nevermind the big "what if" discoveries that would impact the trajectory of our entire species, we also discover valuable science along the way - things that help us in our every day life.
More importantly, the country with the most advanced space agency by default has the most advanced weapons. A hostile nation could pretty easily tow a small asteroid toward Earth and wipe our any country they wanted. Rocket technology, fuel technology, etc.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the space race helped to collapse the Soviet Union to some degree, didn't it?
Regardless of whether my last point stands, I think space is incredibly important to humanity's future.

Either everyone pays to replace the lead pipes, or everyone pays when lead-poisoned children grow up dumber, angrier, and more violent. When someone with high amounts of lead in their system goes on to murder their neighbor or vote a fascist into office, you have to wonder if maybe they could have turned out different. Nevermind the added medical costs which "someone else" pays through insurance or taxes. Especially if the lead poisoned people are, on average, more likely to be homeless or less employable.
We all pay the price for toxins and pollution. That price is much higher than the tax increase.

I like the philosophy as well, and I miss the high(er) quality discussions reddit used to have. I have liked H News for a while but there are some itches it doesn't scratch which Reddit used to.
Strongly disagree. There are so many situations in which abusive people (employers, romantic partners, politicians) need to be caught unaware or they won't be caught at all.
Obviously there are lines to be drawn when we are talking about the government recording citizens. Warrants are an important check on power for this. But any individual should be able to record (mostly) anything. At the very least, it can save you money when a customer service rep claims they never said something. At most, it can keep you out of prison.
I find that talk page fascinating. I have only rarely looked into how the sausage is made over at Wikipedia, but I'm intrigued every time I do.

Could you elaborate or provide examples? I have never seen what you're describing on Wikipedia.
I'll be the odd man out here - I teach special education and GPT has been a lifesaver. I feed it a complex task or text, ask it to simplify it down to my students' reading levels, and then just do a super quick read/edit.
Similarly, I've been using Dall-E to add pictures to the books we read in class.
Compare this to retyping everything at a 4th grade reading level and then painstakingly searching Google for pictures (and usually ending up with mismatched pictures with varying artistic styles or watermarks).
I don't know that we will have true artificial intelligence soon a lá I Robot, but I feel nervous and optimistic about what's to come either way.
By the way, call me crazy but I think the Apple Vision thing is going to be a game changer for business and consumers.

Granted, a lot of the decisions they're making over there lately would indicate otherwise, so maybe they'll love the idea.
Side note, anyone finding good alternatives? Obviously I love this forum as it does feel more like Old Reddit. But it's scratching a different itch for me. I've been experimenting with the Fediverse and it feels like it's one great app away from taking off. I'm very interested to see this Wikipedia-adjacent project that is supposed to come out and be the new Reddit.

biggest problem with playing call of duty on a stadia would be the additional lag.
I found that I wasn't able to enjoy my stadia beyond puzzle games. And I have pretty decent internet. There were periods of a few minutes when I would feel things were working great and then I would suddenly get a slight, barely noticable lag when steering a vehicle or aiming a weapon.
Was always just enough to be infuriating. I can't see COD players enjoying that.
I think adding your idea would work best in VR space.
I don't find myself doing that very much.
I obviously prefer to play my PC or PlayStation, but will play my Switch if I am in the bathroom, riding shotgun on a long car ride, etc. Mobile games, for me, are essentially waiting room games or something I will whip out if I have exactly 7 minutes to kill.
I don't generally think, "I want to game" and then decide which one is worth the effort in the moment.

Very start of an invasion doesn't feel like a great time to be broadcasting your exact location. Also maybe not a great time to be doing outtakes in the open streets.
I don't have a whole lot of information to say whether he actually stayed or not. I assume there would be a ton of credible evidence in one direction or the other - photos, videos, etc. But either way, I'm just saying that I could definitely understand the need for a professional studio and obfuscation of location.
