The city is practically a ghost town today thanks to a botched weather forecast. Tons of businesses and schools closed preemptively because they were predicting massive snowfall totals with what seemed like absolute certainty. According to meteorologists here, it wasn't about whether or not we were getting snow, it was about whether we were getting 1 foot or 2 feet.

But if you talk to startups, you find practically every one over a certain size has gone through legal contortions to get programmers into the the US, where they then paid them the same as they'd have paid an American.

That title is mildly infuriating. Using the term "bomb" to refer to software when actual bomb threats have been made is the epitome of clickbait.

I stopped updating all my Google apps ~2 years ago because there were so many asinine, unintuitive UI changes with each new version. A lot of their changes didn't even conform to the standards recommended by Google (e.g. menu button locations). It's almost as if the UI team gets bored and decides to make changes just because they need to occupy themselves. And then instead of testing them with actual users, they just talk amongst themselves about how awesome their new set of obscure gestures and button locations are.

I'm afraid to buy a new Nexus because of how bad the application interfaces will probably be.

The guy never threatened to target children or reveal any information about them. Why is that so difficult for you to grasp?

I don't think that's a reasonable assumption to make. "Your family" could just as easily be referring to adult family members only (spouses, siblings, parents, etc.).

It seems like you're jumping to that conclusion solely because it makes his comments more inflammatory.

Yes -- a tall desk and a tall chair to match it. Then you should have no need to adjust either unless you somehow become wheelchair-bound by an injury.

It also gives you the option of leaning halfway on/halfway off the stool with one foot on the floor (to avoid the awkward pelvic tilt that a lot of office chairs cause).

Cool, but why not buy a tall stool or drafting chair that matches the height of the desk instead of figuring out all these convoluted ways to lower the entire desk? The whole idea is to sit less, so it shouldn't matter very much how comfortable your chair is.

I use an $85 stool with my standing desk (the bare-bones kind you'd see in high school science classrooms), and I prefer it over any of the $300+ office chairs my employers have provided in the past.

What makes your matchmakers any better than a random stranger? Or a computer algorithm? Or a pile of bricks? I searched through your whole website trying to figure out why your matchmakers are worth my time and money but it doesn't seem like you've made any attempt to address those concerns, which is extremely odd since their matchmaking skills are the core of your business.

Am I missing something? Based on the (lack of) info on your website, your matchmakers really could be random people you pulled off the street.

Looks like you've got a long road ahead if you want any chance of making this work. I personally don't see any need for such a website since Yelp and Google have pretty much got it covered.

I read about a focus group once where a company was asking consumers about different color tea kettles. They had tea kettles in a dozen colors and asked people which one they would purchase. The responses were split fairly evenly among all the different colors. At the end of the day, the people who participated in the focus group were allowed to take home one of the tea kettles for free. Almost all of them chose white or black.

A mortgage can be an extremely good investment, and a 0% car loan is essentially free money if you were going to buy the car anyway. My point is that there's no one-size-fits-all financial advice, and trying to promote the hip, rebellious "debt-free" lifestyle rather than educating people about debt really isn't doing them any favors.
