It's not surprising that you only hear about Waymo in the news when something goes wrong. That doesn't mean it hasn't been extremely successful, which it has by any objective measure, other than profitability at least in the short term. The tech works.

Yea, the LIRR section of Penn Station is really nice now.
As many have noted, the problem is largely Byzantine zoning regulations, NIMBYism, and a "vetocracy" system that makes it extremely hard to build housing in so major metropolitan areas. For example, NYC likely needs at least half a million new homes to keep up with demand.
Paul Graham probably gonna dump a bunch of money into Post now.
Paul Graham was suspended from twitter now.

This is 100% false. The COVID vaccines continue to massively decrease the risk of severe disease, including in old people.
This is a very poor comparsion. Sure, many companies went bust around then. But many didn't. Plenty of real value was created by companies doing real useful things.
Fort Lee, NJ to Crown Heights, Brooklyn.
A particularly absurd case of environmental review delaying a much needed project is congestion pricing in NYC. They are actually going to review the environmental impacts of a system that will decrease the number of cars on the road. What are they even reviewing?

France, Spain, the UK, and other places are much more effective at building than the US. And they of course take safety version seriously.
BQE and Cross-Bronx Expressway definitely not. Building highways through cities is extremely damaging and exist only to ferry suburbanites into and out of the city. Moses wanted to build a highway through Greenwich village. That would have been devastating for lower Manhattan. Intra-city Highways destroy the very vibrancy required for them to adapt and change.
Brooklyn Battery Tunnel? That is a good project. Connecting different areas across bodies of water is good.
Google search trends shows that interest in the term "NFT" has dropped precipitously recently: https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?q=nft&geo=US
From the link you posted:
In this study, mRNA boosters were highly effective against infection with the delta variant but were less effective against infection with the omicron variant. However, these boosters led to strong protection against Covid-19–related hospitalization and death due to both variants.
We vaccinate in order to prevent severe disease, hospitalization, and death. The original vaccines, per the link you shared, are extremely effective at this.
Because there is no need for an updated vaccine. The original vaccine (especially with a booster 6 months after the second dose) is extremely effective at preventing severe disease, hospitalization, and death for all variants of SARS-CoV-2. (Alpha, Beta, Delta, Omicron, etc)
Fraud detection is a feature, not an issue. Default spending limits on debit cards are a feature, not an issue. It's a very good idea that debit cards have default maximum spends, as long as it is simple to raise them permanently.
Why does crypto have to be more beneficial than credit cards to count as a real world use case?
Because if you want people to switch from credit/debit/paypal to crypto, the idea is that it needs to offer some tangible benefit.
There are people in the US who cannot get a credit card easily.
Yes. Debit or Paypal can be used then. The only clear benefit I see from crypto are people who are completely unable to get ANY bank account. But still with crypto, you need a way to purchase it. Not easy without a bank account, but possible if you can find a way to buy it with cash.
Assuming you have USD
I was assuming US persons doing a transaction in the US. If you are in another country, there will be other retailers that offer services in your currency. Also NewEgg supports transactions in many currencies.
you might not be a US citizen
Citizenship is not relevant to purchasing items for online retailers.
assuming you have a credit card
Debit cards can be used just as easily. Fewer protections, but it works just fine. Also PayPal, etc.
Proof of payment is basically instant, is globally accessible
This is true with credit card, debit card, paypal, etc.
I don't have to jump thru the 'verified by visa' bullshit
This is hardly an issue. Takes a few seconds, a total non-issue for 99% of people who just want to purchase something.
Also, no spending limits - I've ordered equipment from newegg and payed for next day delivery, only to have the equipment show up late because my visa 'helpfully' twigged an 'unusual purchase'
Yes, there are fraud detection features for credit cards. I'm pretty sure this occurs very rarely. If you don't like this, use a debit card or paypal with a bank account.
I've also had banks tell me there are daily spending limits on debit card that are too low to buy a high end system
I have never run into this because I never use my debit card, ever. However, it seems this be fixed by calling your bank and raising your limit permanently.
Bottom line is - one size doesn't fit all...
That's right. Crypto might be right for you. But 99% of consumers who want fast, easy, and simple mechanism for purchasing items at any retailer, credit or debit will be the best choice.
Purchasing items on NewEgg with USD is simple, easy, and very fast. If you are using a credit card, you get additional benefits and protections. Additionally, per the link you provided, there are a number of restrictions on using crypto on NewEgg. What is the benefit to using crypto vs using a credit card?
After using TurboTax for years, I switched to using one of the alternatives and it worked just fine. Maybe even better than TurboTax.

Can you give an example of a major media company that no longer exists? CBS,NBC,ABC,Fox, etc have existed for ages.
Per New York Post reporters, the "Hunter Biden" story is total garbage:
https://www.businessinsider.com/new-york-post-skepticism-in-...
I find it strange that people expect "mainstream" press outlets to run with the story. This is not a story of media with an agenda. They did some basic fact checking and found it to be false. Pretty simple.
There are no riots going on in NYC.
I was thinking about this topic from the perspective of a college graduate making the transition to working full time at a white-collar office job.
College is the most social environment imaginable:
- In class with lots of people
- Encountering people you know between classes
- Clubs and social groups
- Communal studying
- Living in close quarters with friends and others
- Eating meals with others, etc.
Just an endless list of opportunities to socialize and interact.
The idea that college graduates will want to make such a transition from the most social environment possible to working from home, alone, for 8 to 10 hours per day, seems very strange to me. I think anyone who has onboarded a new college grad hire (like myself) during this time would attest to this.
This is likely explanation why Oracle was able to acquire TikTok's operation, despite the fact it does not seem to be a good fit at all: https://www.businessinsider.com/look-inside-president-trump-...
I watched the whole video. Excellent stuff. Thanks for posting.
Fascinating. Reminded me of the The Selfish Gene, especially the part discussing the opposing objectives of the mother and offspring.
