This is OT and has probably been covered elsewhere, but why does PG not use https on his site? Also, why does it not trigger showing the 'Toggle Reader View (F9)' button in the Firefox addressbar, if anyone knows?

Math newbie here.

Does 'filter' (as it is used here) have a precise mathematical definition? The only other place where I've seen this word used is the 'bloom filter', which according to Wikipedia is not an algorithm like the Kalman filter but a data structure.

The LaTeX isn't rendering on any of my mobile browsers. Anyone else see the same?

re: Explorer Patcher, does it allow the (W11/W10) taskbar to be moved to one of the vertical edges? The github page doesn't mention this.

I prefer the taskbar on the left and the fact that a vertical taskbar is not supported on W11 is one of the principal reasons I haven't upgraded from W10.

Does anyone else suffer from GI issues like epigastric pain (acidity) brought on by tea/coffee consumption? How do you deal with it?

Where is Part 1? I tried replacing the '2' in the URL with a '1' (and also tried removing it) but got their 404.

I want to see more of the web paid for directly, rather than funded through snooping.

I could possibly live with paying for the privilege of using the web, if respect for user privacy is, um, guaranteed somehow. But that probably won't (can't?) happen, and we'd end up having to pay for the privilege of being snooped upon.

I've always wondered why developer tools are bundled with browsers. Shouldn't they be available as separate downloads as:

1. Most people use browsers compared to working with them for development, and

2. The additional tools just add to the package size and possibly increased resource usage (if they are running with the rest of the browser)?

Maybe I do not understand this particular Kickstarter (and the economics/dynamics of movie-making, among other things), but I did not find 'revenue', 'profit sharing' or other related words/phrases anywhere on the page, or in this HN discussion. I've seen the rewards column, and though I'd like to add 'indie movie producer' to my resume, I don't see any prospective returns for what is essentially a risky investment (term used loosely).

Zach Braff is a very successful TV/movie star, does he seriously not have $2m of his own to make this movie just the way he likes it? Like others, is this crowd-funding exercise also mostly for 'social proof'?

Does the 'Activate JavaScript protection on login' option work for you with 'Secure Login'? It has been working for me for a long time now; I am just wondering if I am doing something wrong.

The site doesn't work nicely with on-demand plugin usage like click-to-play or flashblock, although it is possible that I could be doing something wrong.

I must have done something wrong then. I graduated with a Masters degree in a traditional/hard Engineering discipline (GPA ~3.5) in 2008 and worked as an unpaid CAD monkey for 6 months. I submitted more resumes than I can remember for full-time positions, but didn't even get a single interview call.

I am now gainfully employed, but doing nothing related to my undergraduate/graduate education.
