Couldn't agree more. I'm building open source software for the grid, contributing in a way that feels like it could truly make a difference, while building momentum for open standards. It doesn't feel like work, just creativity and problem solving. On top of that, I can just build stuff for fun. Kids want a Minecraft mod? Let's build it and learn a thing or two on the way.

Completely agree and it is an oversimplification when you graph people on even a 2-dimensional axis.

In reality we all have beliefs that are formed by our "in groups". People have groups beliefs formed from their religion, work, hobbies, study, and internet consumption. These all form our views and then get flattened to a 2-party system.

Unfortunately people can now form their identity solely on a political identity primarily due to social media.

Yes and no, 1200km charged in 10 mins is somewhere around 1MW of peak load. that's manageable and readily available using off the shelf distribution equipment, but it is a lot. The equipment is by no means cheap and large charging sites would almost always require upstream distribution and transmission upgrades, but this is something utilities are planning for. I suspect we'll also start to see on site energy storage to help offset the demand charges that these sites could see.

Tether is used for the purchase of other cryptocurrency (i.e. creates demand). If more Tether has been created then dollars burned, then there has been artificial demand generated for cryptocurrency. Artificial demand, artificial prices. I think sometimes Tether's affect on the market is blown out of proportion, but it could have cooling effect on the trustworthiness of cryptocurrency and then exchanges used to facilitate trades.

It makes me think of the billions that flooded into fiber optic networks to arbitrage the information asymmetry between markets across geographic areas. Maybe we'll be thanking these defunct Bitcoin farmers for invesing so much into the grid. I know the utilities are forcing the farms to put up all the money to tie into the grid. I guess this goes the same goes for the demand for silicon fab.

I participated in the Georgia Tech OMSCS program to get to an MS CS degree about 6 years after getting my EE BS.

I've stayed in my engineering role, but it's absolutely given me an advantage in certain aspects of my job. I can more effectively communicate with IT, and I find myself in leadership positions because I can bridge the gap between IT and Engineering.

I think at the end of the day though, the Master's is not going to give you the knowledge to ace a FAANG interview.

At a certain point it starts to become silly to talk about wealth as the ability to buy things, rather than the ability to organize a large portion of the world's economic systems. That's specifically what his foundation can do as long as it's within a fairly broad set of parameters.

This is different. This is a scientist condemning another scientist for standing on the pulpit and proselytizing to a mass of people. The cirtique by Mallory is that Levitt is using his credentials to bypass the scientific process and undermines the work of many. This is, in my opinion, something we should all condemn.

I don't know what your experience with Bayesian modeling is, and I'll admit mine is limited, but STAN can solve linear regression by defining up a linear model and then setting the dimension parameters as a normal distribution to solve. This is great because it gives you a measure of certainty for each of your parameters.
