Construction is a wonderful industry for artists. You do labour, which is exercise, communicate with people well outside your bubble, and get paid a damn pretty penny for it!

I am certain that our energy resources are greater than they appear, and that dealing with a shitty customer / manager is much more depleting than work itself.

The beautiful part is that the customer (client) is almost never there, and construction managers more often than not just aren't that shitty, probably because they know you can just leave and get another decent job the next day.

N.B. probably not as good in small cities, or anywhere with low economic movement.

Play is so important. My own 2c is (simply) that the further prose moves from spoken word / technical detail, the closer it gets to unrestrained abstract imagination.

Everybody is constantly translating the world into brain signals, and then translating it back again to words. And some of those translations are more visceral than others, and follow natural and playful routes to reality.

It's definitely likely that many etymologies are disconnected from the one(s) assigned. It is absolutely worthwhile doing any of the immersion techniques you mentioned. Volunteer work would probably be the most important thing that you're missing. And I don't mean 'gap year help build a library' kind of volunteering, that stuff is implicitly pre-college, instagram stories and expat heavy. I mean exchanging a few hours of light work for bed and board (the language exchange is free). You can be pretty picky in most countries with sites like workaway or helpx, and probably find a little family to hole up with and do work remotely. And yes, you will find (single) people of all ages doing this.

EDIT: i see I'm supposed to say how traveling changed my life personally. pretty simple if you are me because studying language is my favourite hobby, and, as an amateur linguist, it is essential for my life satisfaction to immerse in something new every couple of years.

I find it a little concerning that the car is allowed to drive in autopilot with the seats reclined. I thought there were warnings for taking your hands off the steering wheel? I suppose they can be ignored. But full recline is a bit OTT.

As a matter of fact the 21st century started prematurely in 1989 with the invention of the world wide web. It was officially inaugurated on NYE 2000, and has since been filled with all sorts of interesting things. 9/11, that started the 21st century's great fear, and security obsession. The 2008 financial crisis, started off the 21st century's fury at the fraudulent capitalist finance system. iPhone / android facilitated the 21st century's incessant protest. Trump and social media showed us some gaping holes in democracy, and the allowed an inherent fascism to reveal itself. COVID revealed to us problems of over population, easy travel and access to healthcare. And then? Clearly it's just the beginning, but there was no point when anything started or ended, other than the date. My only speculation is that the 21st century is as it is because of an appreciation for round numbers, and words like millennium. Or that we are definitely not base reality.

One could argue that all good content for toddlers is IRL and none of the content on yt.

in less than a century we went from heavier than air flight, to satellites, moon landings, mars probes, et al. and now we're talking seriously about terraforming mars and becoming interplanetary? it could turn out to be ~150 years from the invention of the lightbulb to people on mars.. insane.

another century or two of progress and that spacefaring civilisation, and their tech, will look nothing like 99.9% of the speculation. and may even look nothing like us lol.

so given the amount of time it takes for a ball of dirt to churn out meat computers, and how long it takes them to start making neil armstrong figurines. it would be reasonable to assume that all the other aliens are a few years ahead or behind us.

it is not easy to picture the kind of mind bending spaceships they might have because, for example, for us they are still being thought of as spaceships.

ex. you have to really think about what the internet is to not take the logical route and say that it's just copper, fancy glass and radio-waves.. it's actually extremely weird and magical. we have loads of stuff that is incomprehensible to our ancestors, and it's just going to keep going.

of course in this hypothetical universe, i assume that time creates consciousness and benevolence. which may not be the reality. but if it's true, and that advanced civilisations exist all around us and are enormous, magical realms of impossibility, then we will never see them because they are incomprehensible to us, and to them we are a curious entity which share some similarities to their own history – if that's even something that they still posses.
