I've coerced Codex and Claude to build Cloudflare-but-shit because I wanted to have healthcheck-based DNS records (A, CNAME) so I can host stuff on 100 RPis in 100 different places with any type of connection (public IP or behind a CGNAT).

It has DDNS, Tunnels, very-flexible-record definition and Anubis will be implemented soon or you can bring your own.

Powered by PowerDNS and Rails, and if I get some free time I'd like to just have this as an actual offering since I always fear Cloudflare putting more and more things behind a paywall.

Shockingly, it works, obviously the DNS I'm doing now isn't RFC compliant, but this already scratches my itch.

A lot of things because LLMs enable my potential ADHD and no-filter-brain. A thing that controls a small FPV drone from the PC with vision input. Cloudflare but in Europe! An open source synth out of a Pi Pico! A reservations engine for local market. A small orchestrator for when Swarm is annoying but K3S is just too much!

I read through that and I'm not a fan of Cloudflare. I live in the EU, I dislike the increased control that the EU keeps desiring - but generally we've fought it with various degrees of success. I feel it's a bit disingenuous to act like the US has total internet freedom since you're the folks that invented ISP letters. Regardless of that, what really bugged me was the threat of removing the free-tier service for any Italy based accounts, which despite being fully in their right to do, is a shitty thing to threaten with - and it's shocking he would threaten that so easily.

So yes, my reaction is now to move all of my shit from Cloudflare as soon as possible because I don't see CF as a reliable partner right now after that tantrum.

This is impressive, especially because in my mind Bose doesn't have the image of the corporation that cares at all about its perception - especially of its perception in such a small circle that would care about this, but I'm definitely going to bump them up on the list of things I'd buy in the future.

I'm working on email. Principles are growing stronger and for some reason I don't want to use Gmail/Tuta/Proton anymore, so I'm _making my own_. It'll be paid and you'll be able to bring your own domain and however many aliases/inboxes you need.

It'll eventually be at c3n.ro and will be "sovereignly" hosted in the EU.

The message is the same even for non-America - we need to engage with these folks and stop disparaging them. We need to talk to them, we need to understand where they're coming from, we need to help clear the air between "us and them" so that there won't be an "us and them" and so we can _together_ avoid people that tell us what we want to hear.

This is great, and most of the comments here seem to either miss the days of the StarTAC _or_ would gladly enjoy a physically bigger device.

So, I can now change the battery on my iPhone 12 Pro _and_ reset its status in the Settings->Battery field, which is great. I already have all of the tools apart from the Apple specific ones, which to be fair are very useful for someone that does this everyday, I don't - so I can replace them with manual alternatives.

Apple did the good thing and y'all still act like children.

As someone that quit a job in this very industry then went back to rebuild when his boss left - people that worked in this domain will always look fondly upon joining such a company.

It's a fascinating domain, and if you're the type of person that can do code but can also see edge cases and understand business logic - you're going to be one of the top paid people around. So, maybe look for people that aren't the usual cut of coders or experts, of course - if your organization allows the "freethinking" type crowd which sometimes might be prone to accepting toxic people (which can and should be filtered out, eventually).
