I know you meant well but...

"It deletes empty folders" and "Let me know if this is a problem for you"

NEVER DO THAT. I know you meant well, but the first rule of any program is to NEVER automatically delete something without informing the user. NEVER. Users keep empty folders for structure, reminders, or placeholders because software will dump files into it later when it's run. If it was there when they zipped it up, it should be there when they unzip it. Otherwise they'll check the before and after and it will show some folders missing, create confusion, and the user will run off trying to find out if anything else is missing.

Example: A user zips up a program. Some programs are coded to look for a folder and dump files into it, if the folder is missing the program will fail. I've had that occasionally over the years. Not all programs will recreate a missing folder.

This was a hilarious read. The ideology of the writer suits the website. If you want to see someone disconnected from reality, this is the place. Ironically they have no Black people on their team, once again, it's almost all white liberals.

Too Late. Synology and Unity are learning a very hard lesson. When you screw over your customers, then reverse course, it often causes long term damage because people got a chance to see your true behavior and feelings towards your customers.

And if you did it to us once, you're capable of doing it again. To me personally, the "Synology" brand is permanently tarnished. For them to do what they did signals serious moral problems with their decision makers, and the entire move sounded desperate for profit. Just type "alternative to synology nas" and you'll get a whole bunch of options.

Hi, Thank you so much for this. Brutalita is PERFECT, I edited the BGRP letters and will be using it for a new game I'm working on. I was just looking for something like this, kinda futuristic but minimal and simple. I love it.

Hot Take: Youtube is terrible. It's a time sink that's filled with billions of videos that take 15-20 minutes to talk about a topic that's worth only 1-3 minutes of your time. Text is skimmable and easily absorbable, Video is not.

I'm honestly still shocked there isn't some kind of lawsuit or federal investigation on how Microsoft is able to get away with dropping support for CPUs that are only a few years old. Thus forcing unknown millions of people worldwide to upgrade an ENTIRE CPU and Motherboard just for the next version of Windows. What are we supposed to do with all that e-waste?! People who spent thousands on a 32 core threadripper from 5 years ago are now suppose to just... throw it away and buy another 32 core threadripper?!

None of the 7 computers in our house have processors that are supported. Just the AMD Threadripper 2000 series and earlier that launched in 2018 (just 7 years ago) are not supported. That's a massive amount of CPUs about to hit ebay probably at huge discounts.

I'm hoping the Linux community takes advantage of this moment and focuses heavily on converting Windows users to Linux + Bottles.

YES. I get constant Deepfake Oprah and Joe Rogan ads on YouTube. They know about it. They just don't care. Google can easily demonetize channels, block videos, anytime you talk about something controversial (Covid-19 vaccines, Jan 6, election denial, etc...)

A few years back when people were talking about Q-Anon / Pedophile celebrities thousands of YouTube channels were taken down simultaneously of anyone, ANYONE, who was talking about it. "Mouthy Buddha" on YouTube had just 2 videos on the subject and had his channel taken down and was never allowed back on. They all migrated over to BitChute at the time. The YouTube press release claimed about 10,000 videos and their channels removed.

So Google does have ways of scanning content and banning the scam ads, they just don't want to.

Thank you so much for these benchmarks. They really are for very specific use cases.

For Photoshop and Premier and Davinci: 16, 24, or 32 cores is really the sweet spot. Anything more gets negative results.

But for Unreal Engine, Blender, V-Ray, and Large Language Models, the 64 and 96 cores are significantly faster.

Pessimistic Me:

Nothing. They are too comfortable. They are stuck in rainy cloudy Bellevue Washington, in a skyscraper with limited space. Approx the same employee count as decades ago. Neither Epic's games store, EA's Origin, Microsoft's Games for Windows Live, nor Amazon's, was able to dethrone them. They tried to branch out into Movies and Music, they used to sell movies on there but removed the ability in 2019 because no one was using it. Looking back now, it even threw me off, but it's obvious now... People don't want to download movies, they want to stream them like YouTube videos. I'm sure people would want that with games too but that's difficult to do right now. Video games are an emotion, music and movies and books and comics are too. If I were them I'd try to expand Steam so it sells all types of media content. I think it's a mistake not to.

Optimistic Me:

I was worried about them about a decade ago because anytime you think you are "too big to fail" you set yourself up for long term failure and "getting comfortable" is usually what begin's a company's decline. But they've made some really good decisions to branch out. Like getting into hardware. They've got the Steam Link, Steam Machine, Steam Controller, their VR headset "the Index", and their handheld Steam Deck.

So I guess Valve's a hardware company too now.

I was part of the first generation Mozilla FireFox fan. Yep, I had the "Get FireFox" T-Shirt and everything. I came over from Netscape Navigator. After all these years honestly, good riddance. The glitches, the bugs, the crashes, the instability, and it took years or was it decades for them to make it so that extentions don't break on every update. Too little too late. There's no reason for me to go back. We already have the bad memories, and firefox comes with a lot of bad emotions for it to feel new and fresh again. Imagine Mozilla saying "Okay guys we redid FireFox again this time, do you want to try it?" NO.

I can't wait to see their reaction one day when they realize "Climate Change" is actually caused by the sun's increased output and upcoming scheduled micronova. I saw an article floating around that admitted there's no man made climate change, it's actually the sun, which was pretty brave.

Yes. E-ink doesn't need electricity to show an image, it only uses small amounts of electricity to change the image. Technically, if it ran on batteries, you could pop in some batteries, change the advertisement image, and then take the batteries out and the image would stay like that permanently.

Do you realise without an ID to vote, you can literally just walk into a polling place and pretend to be your brother vote, then walk into another polling place pretending to be a male friend you know and vote, then walk to another polling place and pretend to be your neighbor and vote. And you won't get caught if you are certain that the original voter won't vote.

"just go to to the registration table. Say your name and address and sign the list of voters. A poll worker will give you a ballot." That's it. That's all you need. Just your name, the address, and just forge a signature.

Checking id correctly at time of vote slows down the process and causes less people to vote.

I have always used my ID to vote for decades and it's always been instant, I just scan it at the polling location and in less than 2 seconds I'm given a ballot. I do agree that some demographics do not have the money or simply do not care to get an ID, drivers license. I support a law that gives them one for free.

The following is an incomplete MAP of countries that require ID to vote: https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comments/tujqxf/voter_id_la...

The following is an incomplete list of countries that do and do not require ID to vote: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voter_identification_laws

My reasoning is this. If you know someone else's information you can pretend to be them to vote.

If you have a family of 5, all registered voters because they registered decades ago, and none of them want to vote. You can literally just walk into a polling location and pretend to be one of your brothers or a friend you know isn't voting, and cast a vote on their behalf. And keep doing this over and over at different polling locations if you're in a state that allows you to go to any polling location.

Seriously, is it really that hard to just ask for ID when voting? I support giving ID cards for free, I support making voting day a national holiday or forcing it to be on a Saturday or Sunday when everyone is off.

79% of Americans surveyed by Gallup support voter ID: https://news.gallup.com/poll/403052/eight-americans-favor-ea....

It was ~2005-ish, I was just out of highschool, I saw a short documentary talking about a (different) electric car company working on revolutionary electric vehicles that had their working components in the form of a "skateboard" with changable chassis on top. It's been decades now, I don't know what happened to them.

It was 2017, Canoo was founded, I actually bought some stock in them. A "little bird on my shoulder" told me to get out of that mess. Glad I did.

Moral of the story for car startups with pipe dreams. Release SOMETHING as quickly as possible, get money flowing as quickly as possible. Even if it's not a car, JESUS CHRIST make electric scooters FIRST and then move up slowly towards gold carts, then motorcycles, then eventually Electric Cars. Whatever you do, DO NOT spend decades without releasing a single product.

This needs to be done VERY slowly over a long period of time. Any fast solutions will result in massive economic problems because the economy doesn't have enough time to adjust.

Violent criminals can be deported immediately, those on welfare should be next (but given enough time so they can at least save up money and not end up homeless when they reach their original country), then those not working should be deported, then lastely those working should be given a chance to self deport or promise a self deportation timeframe.

Mass deportations of this scale 20-30 million people should be done over the course of a decade at the minimum. I'm against illegal immigration but also against crashing the economy or dumping our illegal immigrants back in their home country without a plan or safety net.

TLDR; Just use http://www.unsplash.com for free professional photos.

100% agree. Years ago I signed up for Getty images (royality based) back when they were competing with Fotolia (royalty free) before they were bought by Adobe, and actually clicked through the shopping cart to see how much it would be to license a picture of some nice autumn leaves for a billboard or a calendar. It was an insane amount in the hundreds of dollars, and it was time limited, and only for a limited run (if you used them for example, a calendar), the usage rights were insane. And if you wanted the full resolution it was something like $1,000+ dollars. Our minds were boggled. We honestly legitamately thought Getty images was some kind of money laundering operation. It was cheaper to hire a photographer to get the pictures you want, rather than license them from Getty.

Yes they have some nice rare photographs of political events (wars, earthquake response, important cultural news photos) but they are insane for thinking their entire catalog is deserving of royalties and time/run limitations. The only thing Getty did was convince me that copyright needs to be heavily reformed. (The photographer isn't paying royalties to all the people who made the objects in the photo, yet they're asking for royalities just for taking the photo)

> "You're intolerant of other religions" I didn't say anything about Buddism, Hinduism, or the others.

You have ignored everything I just said, despite the facts I linked to. Amazing. It's like you're zombified and are no longer able to process new information. Take the following as a learning opportunity:

I'll use small short sentences that even you should be able to understand. (1) Muslim countries do not allow outsiders to change their demographics either racialy or religiously. (2) I am the same way as them. I do not want European countries to change their demographics or religions.

You accuse me of being intolerant. you do NOT accuse the Muslims of being intolerant. Are you insane?

Is that really so difficult to understand? Are you mentally disabled?

When Muslims are self preserving, you "amanaplanacanal" say nothing, you do not accuse them of being intollerant. When ->I<- act the exact same way, you "amanaplanacanal" accuse me of being the intolerant one. I want to ask you a serious question, are you White/European? If you are not that's okay, I just need to know if I'm waisting my time talking to someone who has Anti European sentiment. Either that or you're a non European who likes living in European created countries because you have no other way to make your dreams come true. I often find that's the case with Anti-Whites. If you're not European/White what are you? Asian? African? Middle Eastern? Indian? Why doesn't your race open up their borders and let massive demographic change happen in your territory?

Nice try playing dumb. You mean THEIR religious intolerance? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apostasy_in_Islam_by_country (death penality, jail time, etc...)

They'll kill or imprison you if you go to their country to change them out of their religion (because they're self preserving) but if I as a European simple say "no I don't want to change the religious demographics of my European country" or "I don't want illegal immigration" or "I don't want to take in refugees that will change the demographics of my country" I get people like you claiming I'm intolerant. If you're so tolerant then tell us all where you're from? And how many muslims your country has taken in.

THANK you so much for the XP one. XP's UI is my favorite of all the Windows UIs. It had just enough modernity to feel sleek but still had contrast to be easily seen and read and understood.

Windows 7 UI was a bit too flashy and employed looks over readability and Windows 98 was too old fashioned and also suffered from a lack of contrast with all the grey.
