Having gone to university in Germany, there are glimpses of this ideal, but they're mostly faint memories enshrined on faded plaques around the campus. I did have an old geezer prof (90+ years old) that went to the very same university over half a century ago and showed us his diploma: greek, latin, humanities, ... for a technical diploma, no less!
I do still cringe a little when we get newjoiners fresh out of university proudly proclaiming "Yeah, no can do, we didn't learn that at university". Yes, obviously, university is not an apprenticeship. You learn how to learn and then apply that to unknown-to-you problems. Oddly enough ChatGPT seems to have brought a change to that mindset, but Im not sure if it did so for the better.

Not sure when this was supposed to be the case, but for actual universities (not meant in a deragotary way, Germany has two types of higher eduction) in hard sciences, most classes are graded on a single written exam. Both in undergrad/bachelors and masters.
Unless things have drastically changed in the last five years...

In Germany, you can't even transfer copyright. So yeah, anything you create that reaches the threshold of having a copyright, you own the copyright. Even as an employee.
At the same time, you might not own the usage rights (Nutzungsrechte/Verwertungsrechte).

I've had this conversation many times, it doesn't lead to anything. If Hamas is bad, then anything that Isreal does in order to eliminate Hamas, has to be good. If Russia is bad, than anything that Ukraine does, has to be good. If Putin is bad, than Nawalny has to be good. If Erdoğan is bad, than İmamoğlu has to be good.

Not sure about kids, but I've seen university students that literally did not know how to use a non iOS computing device. Colleagues had to start explaining what a file is, a folder, etc etc, in their courses.
Honestly I don't find that too bad. My guess is that computers will go the same way cars did: Most people will only know the very basics that are needed to operate the thing. Any deeper knowledge will be left to enthusiasts and professionals. Thus computers, while getting more complicated internally, will have fewer and fewer modi of usages.

About 80% of my grades in uni were 100% based on the finals. AFAIAA this is the norm for STEM in Germany.
This was less true for my Master's and is generally less true for non STEM.

The West was greedy and saw a trillion dollar opportunity in welcoming China into the WTO in 2000 and gave China massive leeway (this is my opinion, and probably not a majority opinion).
In my opinion (only speaking for Germany, as I follow mostly the politics here) nobody was very keen on asking questions and making demand when the Chinese were producing our shit for pennies on the dollar but buying our premium Mercedes Benz S Classes Long Lines (and similar high technology products) by the millions.
