That first sentence is the problem with this world. Everyone says that they want to fix a problem until it comes time to take action. You're just lying to yourself and virtue signaling to everyone else if you're not making steps in your own life to actively make a change in your own behavior.

That second sentence will be the downfall of all free people. It's weak willed people like you who won't make changes in their own lives literally begging for government to take more power. Asking the government to force you to change your own behavior.

You're very naive to think this power you would give so freely will be used benevolently. You needn't look any further than the government's inaction to punish those big companies who are destroying our oceans, our economies, our rivers. No big company CEOs ever go to prison for destroying our planet because our politicians are bank rolled by them. There is the ruling class, then there is you me, and everyone else. These are the people you will surrender your freedoms to so cheerfully.

Obviously I'm exaggerating for a point here. The point is "Good or Bad" is not immaterial to deciding if a solution should be implemented.

It's not the 'proof' part of "proof of vaccination" that's the problem. It's compelling an employee to put a foreign substance into their body. This is also much different than requiring an employee NOT ingest a substance. The situation you've created here is akin to restricted speech vs compelled speech (drug test the former, vaccine the latter).

If this is truly the case, a mandate wouldn't be necessary. Every single one of these people would have been vaccinated already. So why the mandate?

So people who don't want to take the vaccine until it has been fully approved by the FDA should be penalized to accommodate people who neglect their health?

This is not how insurance works. The at-fault driver's insurance pays for damages. You're either leaving something out of this story or it is fabricated from whole cloth.

What, exactly, is "an average criminal"? There are laws against causing damage to property that's not yours. No one is saying let all the criminals out. Just stop putting people in jail for hurting absolutely nobody except themselves. 30k a year is a bargain? That's a laugh. regular people live on much less than 30k a year in furnished houses, why should an 8x8 cell and one guard per n inmates cost more than a large number of people make in a year? Why do you and I foot the bill for their medical and education costs? I can hardly afford my own education, much less an education for inmates. If you're not disturbed or angry, or at least critical of the current situation, you should consider a reappraisal of your view on what a bargain is.

If pop ups increased the amount of data my hard drive could store they'd be equally good... Monsanto is an evil corporation but GMOs are pretty much the only reason there's going to be enough food for "your sorry arse" to eat in 10 years. The farmers have to pay for the seeds, yes, but their yield is much higher than without them. Sounds like the guy knew what he was doing when he bought the second hand seeds. Why don't you spend billions of dollars on a piece of software, sell it to me cheap and allow me to sell knock offs for 1/2 your asking price; lets see how you feel about it then...

Not to nit pick, but I was able to get the only image I looked at down to 1/3 of the size with no noticeable loss of image quality. I understand you're showcasing your work, but image optimization is a big part of the job. Just something to keep in mind. It was the first thing I looked at, even before the actual image. And if you're advertising yourself as someone who can code it all out, it'd be beneficial to be able to see your code. I know this might seem trivial, but it's something potential employers will look at.

I agree with most of this. What got me really going on programing was an idea I had that kind of existed, but not really, so i set out to learn how to create something PERFECT(still not there). Anyway, my point is, having a goal that you personally really want to achieve is a fantastic motivator.

With that said, i totally disagree with the idea that you should be able to build a functional prototype in a weekend. That's crazy talk if you're truly trying to create something worthwhile. Sure building a practice site in a weekend to get you hands a little dirty, and kind of get a feel for the way things work is a great idea, but if you start with the goal of building a prototype of your masterpiece in a weekend, you're surely setting yourself up for a fantastic failure, and probably get demotivated and quit. I think it's a better idea to dabble a bit with some fun practice and then get an idea of what you're building entails, then set a realistic goal(aka 4x what you think it'll take you) and set out to make something great.

Keep calm and don't buy their merchandise if you're offended. Telling the world about this company and trying to crucify them for it is the wrong way of going after them. The shit storm that followed the 2 minutes the shirt was for sale is probably the best publicity the company could have ever asked for.

I for one am glad amazon is not in the business of censoring what's for sale or not. Their company provides an online market place to sell goods, period. Blaming amazon for something that 1) offended you and 2) was a mistake is incredibly short sighted.

I am not a great programmer, not even good, But I find that communicating with people, being pleasant, driven, concise, helpful, and professional have given me opportunities that programming skills never would have alone. Not even if I WAS a good programmer. Thanks for sharing.

The simplest answer is: you have a 50% chance of the number being > .5 and a 50% chance of getting a number > num1 +num2 >=1 so the answer is 2 draws. people are trying to show these grand equations to figure it out, but it's really a simple solution; Most of the time it take 2 draws.

Use your mind, which is enormously greater at making common sense solutions than a computer, and figure it out with common sense, then test it with an algorithm.

Considering [0-1] inclusive, these are the percentages after a million runs;

1- 1%

2- 49%

3- 33%

4- 12%

5- 3%

6- .7%

7- .1%

8- .02%

it doesn't add up to 100% because of rounding, but you get the picture.

Everyone beat me to the punch, but I made a something a little different than you guys, I stored the count of trys to reach 1 and the frequency of the count in a multidimensional array to see what amount of tries got to the sum most frequently. i ran 100,000 tries at a time and ran it about 10 times.

2 was most frequent count every time.

Why does it need to be one or the other? I work a part time job, have a part time load at college and an internship as a web developer that I'm very excited about. For me, dropping out is only an option if I find an employer offering me a full time position doing something I love. And even then, whats the harm in going to school 12-15 hours a week?

Grades are part of school, if they didn't exist why would you even try to complete the work? I find a lot of times getting a good grade doesn't necessarily mean retaining the information, but as you said, most of that information probably wont be relevant in the real world anyways. So take learning into your own hands, no one said you can only learn at school, books are cheap and tutorials on the internet are nearing a number that is relatively infinite. Work hard and you will get where you want to be, school will never hurt your chances.

As someone in the same boat, I chose PHP as my language of choice, and in a matter of about a year went from not having any real knowledge to landing an internship about a month ago. HTML and CSS are necessary, beyond that, I think any other technologies you pick up will only help your cause. Only piece of advice I have for you is don't slack off and don't get lazy. Think of a project that is far beyond what you can do right now and start creating it, for me, having a project of my own was the most motivational thing I could ask for. One more thing, if you don't type correctly, start learning now! 60wpm vs 25wpm can really affect how long it takes you to develop.

Maybe the shirt isn't 'PC' but it's also just an ugly shirt. No need to throw a temper tantrum about someones terrible taste in apparel. Just seems petty to me to decline sharing your knowledge with people because you are easily offended. I don't think it's a detriment to women as a whole, but certainly to an individual who is willing to opt out of educational events because of a shirt. Imagine if every woman adopted this attitude, the end result would be less women at these sorts of events. I don't see that helping anyone's cause.

This seems to me, like the least efficient method ever for dealing with the problem. Ok you want to find 'rivers' in text. To do so you have to turn that text into an image and then run it through your app, then go back and manually correct the problem? What was the point of the app again? I don't care if it took 1 line of code or 1000, this seems completely useless, when the anomaly is blatantly obvious when proofreading. Not to mention if you wanted to fix it dynamically, you'd end up with an image of a block of text instead of text, no big deal for print, but devastating for SEO.. "ok smart ass what would you recommend?" is that what your thinking? Well, since you asked; why not take an open source text editor and add an algorithm that stores each line of text in an array, find the index of all the spaces and compare it to the previous and next lines of text. If the index of spaces are relatively 0 between lines; you have a river. If the indexes increment or decrement; you have a river. Now add an extra space somewhere or move the last word on the last line to the next line. Whatever solution is most aesthetically pleasing. Now your rivers are getting fixed on the fly and you don't need to take a screenshot of a block of text to analyze it. Maybe I missed the point of the article, but i thing those of you praising their solution aren't taking into account what the problem actually is, and the fact that their app doesn't actually include a solution to the problem.
