I wouldn't use Edge TTS for commercial projects since it's using an internal Microsoft API that was reverse engineered.

Good tips, especially the point about narrowing the scope. At https://Lemonfox.ai we started with a LLM, image and speech-to-text API. Now we are only focusing on the speech-to-text API as the other areas are already very crowded and there's a lack of innovation in the speech-to-text space.
You may want to try https://lemonfox.ai/ as a OpenAI API alternative. I think relying on open-source models is a great alternative.
We are using Mistral at https://lemonfox.ai/. With Lemonfox you can easily switch from the OpenAI API to open source AI models. Mistral has been working well as a gpt-3.5 replacement but we are currently planning to switch to Zephyr - a fine-tuned Mistral model. We've seen some nice improvements with Zephyr especially with non-English prompts/responses.
We just started a service different open source models and with an OpenAI compatible API [1]. The pricing isn't final and we haven't officially launched yet but you should be able to save at least 75% compared to GPT 3.5.

Two people work half-time and one guy works full-time on the project. In addition we have 2-3 freelancers who add photos. We make money through donations, ads and referral links to Shutterstock.
I launched https://www.pexels.com/ two year ago - a website to find free high-quality photos. It started as a side project. Now we have hundred thousands of visitors each month and three people are working on it.
