It's a crap shoot. Just like starting a business is. I was the technical-guy (CTO)/co-founder with a "business" partner (CEO) many years ago. All went well for the first few years, but as we grew he was unable to move from the entrepreneurial role and let the organization grow. His micromanagement doomed an attempted expansion into a larger market and the company floundered because of it.

Getting a company off the ground takes very different skills than what is necessary for growing a management team and developing real business strategies. It’s kind of a catch-22 - you need the entrepreneur to get started, but once you get there he or she may not be the right person to get you to the next level.

If nothing else, the SO Careers site provides a convenient place to park your CV and make it public (if that's what you want) -- for free. I think the markdown formatting is more than sufficient to get the look you want and highlight what's important. The linking of up to 10 technologies with job experience is intuitive.

SO reputation or not, this presentation is at least as good as what even an "elite" programmers resume would look like.

I just want an Aeron chair.

The name feels odd -- like an unedited Chinese translation. Monster only works because they could afford a Superbowl ad. Maybe something that highlights the organizational aspect? MyJobSearchManager.com is open.

I've done Remote and the Pond. I like the Pond a lot better.

Requirements don't stink, they're just hard to do.

If it wasn't for Jeff's recent posts I would not have known that HN even exists. I'm sure there are many more like me. Thanks for the welcome!

I read a lot of programming blogs and I'd say that the codinghorror content better than many. The size of his readership certainly bears that out. It's actually not really a programming blog anyway. It's mostly opinion pieces that are designed to provoke a response. One common response is that he's simply dismissed. Everyone's entitled to have their say.
