I am incredibly saddened that the inevitable finally happened. The OG 5,1 cheese grater sparked so much joy. I added and expanded so much over the years before I finally donated it to a computer museum and moved on to Apple Silicon. I did everything from scientific computing, ripping movies, serving files, running websites, and everything in between.

The amount of classroom time I wasted playing this game…

When I think of west coast jazz, I think of Tom Scott and I was surprised to not see him in this article.

For me, the needles suck. The sensors can go bad and can give false readings — so you still need to prick your finger. It’s better than flying blind but I’m hoping for a non invasive option

I'm impressed the author took the time to mention the ring shout. But they lose points for referring to the continent of Africa like it was a country, and missing the opportunity to go a bit deeper on its importance in Western African cultures.

I like the concept, but I need the ability to interact with a repo I've already cloned. I can't connect this to my work GitHub enterprise repos.

Another great milestone in an awesome suite of python tools. UV got me using virtual environments again. I especially love it in CI/CD.

I'd argue the bigger value is keeping the data in one storage place and bringing the compute to it. Works especially well for Big Corp use cases where entire divisions of the corp go their own way. Throw in M&A activity and it is a good hedge for the unknown (I.e you might be an Databricks and Azure shop and you just bought a Snowflake & AWS company). Keep the data in an open table format, and let everyone query using their preferred engine to their hearts desire.

I am a huge fan of what they are doing, particularly putting local compute front and center. However for “BigCorp”, it’s going to be an uphill battle. The incumbents are entrenched and many decision makers will make decisions based on non technical reasons (I.e did my sales exec get me to the F1 Grand Prix).

I've only used Pylance standard type checking in vscode. I have not used pyright as a stand alone package.
