At its inception the appeal was the "multi-stage optimisation system" and the virtual instruction set design (from https://llvm.org/pubs/2002-12-LattnerMSThesis.html)

I was closely involved in this controversy at the time and I can attest to the "loudest voice" problem where a small number of people magnified the situation far beyond what it needed to be. Definitely surprised to see a comment referring to it on HN more than 2 years on though!

I've always found that the safest way to cycle in a busy city is to behave as similarly to a car as possible. If you're acting like a car and participating properly in traffic flow, it's far less likely that you'll get into an accident or altercation with a vehicle.

This is helped enormously by 20mph speed limits around the city where I live. It means that at a busy junction in the city center, I can accelerate away and get up to traffic speed as quickly as a car, if not quicker.

You can buy a negative number of shares, resulting in you gaining ludicrous amounts of money very quickly (although my fraudulent purchases seemed to be removed after a couple of minutes.)

2011 Mac Mini i5 2.3 with 8GB of RAM, as well as a custom built gaming PC. Both are connected to the same 22" LG monitor (via a switch), and I swap a wireless USB keyboard / mouse between them. I am a 16 year old freelance iOS developer, and as such, the Mac is my main use computer.
