Looking at his portfolio it seems like he his better at photoshop than at taking photos.
I'm with you on this. I can understand controlling the use of phones during class because it's disrespectful for the teachers work, but a complete ban is just dumb and seems like virtue signalling. If this is a problem for you as a parent, you have the choice of not buying your kid the phone in the first place, or not letting him take it to school. I thinks that any rule or law that takes away from the parents the responsibility of educating a child is probably not good for the kid.
Also specially in the US with all the school shootings, banning kids from having phones that allow them to call for help seems like a really bad idea.
From my experience in tech support most of the issues with mouses and keyboards are because of accumulated gunk, specially if you have pets or smoke near the computer. Since they are normally simple devices on the inside you can just remove the screws and clean all the dirt and you won't break anything. I actually just did this 5 minutes ago to my mouse because middle click wasn't working. Found out it was just a bunch of cat hair stuck in the mouse wheel. Other common source of issues is the USB cable, and those can be replaced if you know how to disconnect the contacts from the main board and resolder them.
No idea, but it seems like it's intentionally made so that no matter the orientation of the deck (face up or face down), the first card you see (not counting jokers and ad cards) will always de an ace. The two suits of those aces are just the two most liked suits (ace and hearths).
The curious part is that this order doesn't mean anything for card players, in fact it would probably be better for most games if the decks where printed in random order, but for magicians this order is really important for many effects. For example, if you perfectly shuffle the deck 8 times it will go back to it's original order.
Bit of a nitpicking but the "sort" order is wrong. New decks come ordered Ace of Spades - King of Spades, Ace of Diamonds - King of Diamonds, King of Clubs - Ace of Clubs, King of Hearts - Ace of Hearts. The deck should start and end with Aces, and have two kings next to each other in the middle.

Besides the AI being able to interpret the questions, which is the entire point of a language model, isn't this just the same as someone googling the answers to the exam?
Are people really OK with writing code in C# for data presentation? How is it fine having to compile code when you want to change a font colour for example?
And just from looking at the examples you can see how quickly it becomes messy. It looks like something that would work fine for very simple document structures but would get messy really fast once you add any level of complexity. Imagine having to write code for a document with multiple levels of headings, tables and images with captions, parts of text that need emphasis, etc.
From my experience the best solution for generating PDFs in .NET are, as mentioned here before, wkhtmltopdf wrappers. Take a Razor view, add some document properties (page size, margins, headers, footers, etc) in code, and output to a PDF.
I would even argue that on desktop using Office APIs to populate word documents and output them to PDF is more efficient than this.

This needs to be higher. Zuck clearly said that Facebook got a general warning from the FBI regarding the elections, but didn't recall having a specific warning about the Hunter Biden story. Even with Joe Rogan trying to press on the issue (he has been known to be critical of shadow banning) Zuckeberg justified the decisions fairly well, and Joe seemed to agree with him that it was a hard issue and that Facebook handled it the best way possible, and at least better than Twitter.
NO2 is mostly generated from burning fuel, that's why in most of the countries in the map you only see yellow blobs over major cities due to higher car traffic, and almost no NO2 in rural areas. The major blob over central europe and south uk makes no sense and I don't think that excessive farming can justify it. If you look at a worldwide map of NO2 emissions [1] you can see that besides that large area in Europe only China has concentrations of NO2 that high.

This is probably an edge case, but I work in lab software that uses chemical symbols and having sub and super characters saves lots of headaches. I can just store "CO₂" in a database, query it, and display it back as a simple string, or display values in scientific notation like 1,3×10³, without having to use any formatting.
But to be honest I'm not sure what the parent comment wants to see added because at the moment having all the letters from A-Z, numbers from 0-9, and plus minus and equals signs as both subscript and superscript seems to be enough.
An interesting thing in those numbers is that Ukraine captured more Russian vehicles than the ones that they lost. So Russian is in a way making the Ukrainian army bigger.

To clarify, the law WAS awful, but when this was posted here on HN it was already announced that the only thing that PSD (opposing political party) was willing to approve was the use body-cams and wildfires surveillance, and that the CNPD had already deem it unconstitutional.
As it stands now (and it might change, obviously) it seems like none of the "backdoors" will make it to the final law.
So my argument is that this is a non-issue at the moment, but again, it might change because #politics.
And I can't find a source for this, but from what I remember this law was put forward after we had some security issues in the bar areas of Porto and Lisbon, and the police requested more video surveillance to fix it. I believe the Data Protection Commission didn't approved it, so now here we are.
That article is pure propaganda and not factually true.
To give some background, the Portuguese government failed to get the annual budget approved, the president dissolved the parliament due to that, and scheduled new elections that will happen in a few months.
Due to that the current government asked the leaders of all political parties to give urgent treatment to 7 diplomas / laws that are almost finished and should not have to wait until after the new elections to be approved. There is no secret move being made here, everyone knows that this is happening.
Regarding the "biometric mass surveillance", one of the 7 laws that where requested to have urgent approval was about allowing the use of video surveillance by the police. The wording of the law was a bit too vague and as such did not get approval from the National Data Protection Commission.
Also, it's worth to mention that the government can't approve the law by themselves and needs support from other (and opposing) political parties.
As it sits now the government has to change the wording of the law to be more specific and ensure that it complies with data protection laws (as in GDPR), and even after that the opposing parties are only willing to approve the use of body-cams by police, and the use of video surveillance to prevent wildfires (which are a major issue in Portugal).
It's probably just an issue with trying to translate the original source. But the law uses the term "contact", so AP is correct.
The specifics aren't yet known, they only approved the generality of the law. But the news only mentions employers, so it doesn't seem like it will include co-workers. Also your example would be considered an infraction.
Another reason why it won't mean much is that the employee is the one that needs to make a complain with the work authority, and then work authority has to evaluate the case and decide it they will issue a fine or not.
So what this really means is that if my boss contacts me after work hours I can (and should) ignore him without any repercussions.
You're partially right.
Portugal is in the middle of a work culture change. For the last maybe 5 or so years, many tech companies have opened offices here, and with that they brought a better work/life balance, better salaries, better everything, for people working in those companies.
On the other hand a typical "old school" Portuguese boss expects you to work more than the standard 8 hours and not be paid for it. In many many places you're shamed by co-workers if you leave on time (leaving earlier isn't even an option), or if you need to take days off for personal reasons. It's also not unusual to make it hard for people to take vacation days (we have 21 days of vacations per year), and even when you do take vacations you are expected to be available if needed. All this for a minimum wage of 665€.
Regarding the Portuguese economy, we are somewhere in the middle of Europe. We have many industries where we are probably the best in the world, but they are smaller less flashy industries. Namely things like wine, cork, shoes, ceramics (as in toilets), glass, etc. But we have many financial issues, manly due to huge amount of corruption in government and financial institutions. Regarding this law in particular, it was made so that people that are working from home due to COVID can log off an not have people calling for extra work after hours. It has been a real issue. For me personally I've been working average 10 hours a day the last two years.

These are just addons to your regular package, they allow you to customize your plan according to your needs. The regular packages have different tiers that go anywhere from 500Mb to 10Gb of data included, which is more or less the same amount of data that the other ISPs in the country provide. There are no unlimited mobile data packages in Portugal, in any ISP, except the special plans for 4G personal hotspots. These addons just mean that if you pay more, the data from the services /apps that you use more often wont count to your regular data cap, to a limit of up to 10Gb per month.
In my case (I'm with another ISP), I pay 4€ per week and have 5Gb of "regular" data to use per month, plus another 5Gb just for video platforms (like Youtube and Twitch), and then there are several apps like Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram, Skype, Spotify, etc, that don't consume any data from the plan, they're free to use. They also provide a premium Spotify account for free, which is nice.
For me, as a client, this is actually good, even tough it's far from neutral. I never go over the data cap, and I rarely use Wi-Fi even when I'm at home, because the apps that I use more often are "free" and I still have 5Gb of data to use on whatever else I want. If anything the problem in the original link is that that particular ISP is charging for something that the other ISPs provide for free.
It's also important to notice that Portugal has a communications regulatory authority (ANACOM), similar to the FCC, but that actually works, and defends the interests of the consumers. Just today they announced that all the ISPs will be fined in excess of 1 million euros, and face a possible class action law suit due to increasing prices without an explicit permission from the costumers.
So yeah, where actually doing good here.
