Although it does not handle MRI files yet. I opensourced an AI workflow that helps in figuring out issues with my family.

https://karankurani.github.io/OpenCareLoop/

It has helped me personally solve longer chronic problems in my family that doctors just dont have the time to go into indepth due to their (understandable) lack of time.

Its in alpha and AI hallucinates. Use with care. Feedback welcome.

An AI agent for personalized healthcare is inevitable. The cases such as the one posted are all solvable with time. AI has hallucinated and continues to hallucinate but the value we get in the space of coding can be extended to other domains.

Now, Together 11 months ago

I use a variation of this. I call it “lets do miserable toil together” or “misery loves company”.

Where if there is a lot of gruntwork that is plain toil and is unpleasant to do solo. I plan a time window in advance that a bunch of people get together to do that same work.

Gives team support to individual, gets the work done fast and makes it less unpleasant.

All these genre of articles are of the same vein.

- corporations are inherently evil. They are akin to criminals.

Every single time the author has never run a business that is equivalent at the scale of the business being criticized.

And they attribute to malice that can be explained with systematic incentives or complex interactions between various complex components in a dynamic world.

Its not the same as committing a crime.

OPs projects/expertise while they claim to not be a (weird af definition) bureaucrat -

“General things I can do for your business:

Mathematical and statistical modeling Data architecture Predictive analytics, statistical modeling and machine learning Physics/technology assessment and development Data science team building/recruiting Data reporting engines Technical writing Writing for technical and general audiences Time series databases”

No more explanation needed. Do not hire this person.

Perhaps fcc should look at India’s regulatory mechanism for sim swap solution.

They disable SMSes altogether for 48 hrs when a new sim is given. This gives enough time for a victim to go to a physical location to resolve the issue. It doesn’t solve it 100% but definitely introduces enough friction to put a dent in the efficiency of the attackers.

Podman Desktop 1.0 3 years ago

I tried to use podman for a personal project.

It still has lots of documentation issues/missing. Lots of little bugs and very little updates on stability.

Used wsl2 and ubuntu. Eventually gave up because it was just leading from one rabbit hole to the next.

Either use venv/vagrant/docker. Or just use native development workflow.

Podman is not worth the pain unless its for a mid size business or bigger.

User Disengagement 4 years ago

They do work. You can draw a straight line from “Engagement metrics” to a working business model that generates real revenue. There are several B2C products that derive their value from engagement. And it is frequently a leading indicator of how viable a product can be.

But like all metrics, one should not over optimize on any one metric - be it engagement, revenue, growth rate etc.

The biggest issue has been a lack of balance between engagement and usability which unfortunately has been dominated by engagement over usability.

User Disengagement 4 years ago

Zerodha has had the good fortune of ending up building a good product whilst the market needed it.

If the pandemic had not happened, the growth would not have been what it is right now and that is when “build it and the users will come” philosophy stops working.

The engagement metrics do work, but just like everything else in life, if you overoptimize for any one thing, it is detrimental (eg- drinking water in excess is harmful).

Thanks for your reply.

1. The cost for a setup and maintenance is $2M for an entire Tier 1 city in India - that's peanuts compared to the revenue you will generate if the general public starts using the network and pays for it. You can self fund this to a large scale.

2. Wifi Dabba as an entity controls this infrastructure and that entity also controls the software that powers the infrastructure. The PoP is not an independent entity working in a decentralized matter. If the Indian govt says Wifi Dabba as an entity has to shut down - it can easily do so without any problems and the network goes down with it. So its hard to agree that this solution is truly decentralized.

3. There was some weird calculation error on $13.2M figure. I fixed it - sorry about that.

4. That I understand, but my question isn't about the legitimacy of the fundraise.

Apart from point #2 - my original question is not addressed.

Have you explored and ruled out traditional forms of financial instruments? If yes - why? If not - why not do that first for 1 or 2 cities and then the model can be flipped into public retail investment/franchise model at a later point once you prove a successful rollout on a city scale.

Interested, but few questions - There are several "traditional" financial instruments you can use to fund this rollout across Bangalore.

This includes but is not limited to - Bank Debt, Venture Debt, Equity, Revenue Share based Debt, indie.vc style debt (revenue share debt payback), ads on billboards below/above/next to the wifi towers and so on.

Why go the public retail investor/franchise model route? Are all of the above exhausted or infeasible? If so - why?

Further, the network doesn't require a city coverage for it to work. It can be added piecemeal over time. Thus, you don't need the entire city coverage to start with - but major population dense areas to make the $20k payback in a few months. And the profits there on can be reinvested into more PoPs. Starting capital is $1.3M - its not hard to raise with a working solid business - in debt format if you don't want to give up equity.

How Epidemics End 6 years ago

From what I gather the author is trying to say is that it will become endemic and thus "end".

Way too long winded and convoluted.

I find such broad sweeping projections about population growth, big population numbers = more power, “eclipsing USA” and further conclusions emanating from this kind of line of thinking making zero sense.

Nobody has a clue on how population growth is going to be in next 30 yrs for both China and India. Its too dynamic and impossible to forecast, let alone make broad sweeping action items to advocate for.

As a CTO of a python shop I would fail in answering a lot of these off the top of my head.

That is why I do not ask any language specific questions in my interview process. Good engineers can answer all of these questions with an internet connection and a few mins of googling.

As a counter argument i propose you read the book “Seeing like a state” by James Scott.

It clearly lays out the flawed thinking as done in the article and why this systematic kind of urban planning/engineering almost always fails.

Having been a resident of ahmedabad for a decade and having several friends here let me point out that the residents here have seen commute times increase despite all the planning and expansion of roads here.

I am only commenting about the abuse of the h1b system as mentioned in the link.

This not about any of the other actions of “protectionist policy” that you mention.

You cannot do fake job postings in order to bench someone and call it “work around” in order to not call it a fraud and put it in a good light. The overall issue of h1b visa and foreign worker policy is highly nuanced and beyond what can be discussed in HN comments.

To reiterate- I am in support of easier migration of skilled workers than what is done today. But abuse of it (and a stark case at that) is something that harms other skilled workers looking to come in a legit way.

It looks more of a psychological issue and lot of stress causing a vicious cycle.

As whack suggested - try relaxing a bit and giving yourself a break for a week or so. You will be surprised at how effective breaks are in improving performance. This is one of the most common mistakes junior programmers do - no breaks and constant coding until you get burnt out.

I am writing a book on using mindfulness to become a better software engineer - https://leanpub.com/selfdebug/ - you can download it for free and see if it helps.

This is very typical in India in almost every interaction. People ghost all the time, including but not limited to business deals, interviews, any kind of appointments etc.

There is an entire system developed which handles these kind of situations. Its a cultural thing here where saying a “no” outright is considered bad behaviour and offensive. One simply stops responding and that is how the other party knows that they are no longer interested.

Interestingly, it also “leaves the door open” if/when the party saying no by being silent changes their mind. They simply make up a BS but a reasonable explanation to pick up the process where it was left off.

The point here (which seemed to be muddled in the post) is that you can’t assume that your startup succeeds and not save with that expectation.

Its not that startups are financial suicide - the suicide is not saving and not keeping the personal burn rate low.

A clearer way of saying the same point - keep on saving like a regular employee would - you will protect yourself in case startup fails. Do not assume that the startup succeeds and have no safety net. That sets up for a disaster.
