As human beings, we have an underlying need for belonging and connection. All of us are by default programmed to be connected to our own interests. For many that circle broadens to their friends and family and for a few that broadens to their immediate community. Fewer still feel connected to their country and only some of us will feel connected to the world.

Do I care about this hard to exploit vulnerability on a web server that's streaming video content to the public? No. Does it matter on a DB server with important financial data? Yes it does.

The ability to create a docker image from multiple sub-images is pretty useful. I think you could also use Dockerfile multi stage builds for that, but it’s not as clean.

I believe this. I've been very heavily into games before after being very heavily into watching TV shows and movies. I would always try to talk to my gaming friends about movies and shows and they would all basically say the same thing.

As bad as Rogers is, Bell Canada is much worse with regards to NN. And both would like nothing better than than to prevent all the other ISPs from being able to lease the last mile from them.

This is going in the complete opposite direction than what's needed. You definately don't want a single ISP especially if it's run by the government.

You need more ISPs. A lot more. But for that to happen you need to make the last mile neutral and preferably run by an independent third party.

The next best thing would be for the last mile ISPs being required to lease the last mile to other ISPs at a fixed rate. This still has problems as the last mile ISP can pull some shenanigans like prioritizing their own customers for repairs, messing with the other ISPs traffic, etc.

Actually, it's access to the last mile that's sold a fixed rates. The ISPs lease aggregated links to the last mile network depending on how much capacity they need. These ISPs have their own internet uplinks. There are ISPs that are just pure resellers but I'm not sure if this is regulated.

But even this had a net neutrality issue. The ISPs leasing out the last mile access started to throttle certain traffic (bittorrent and VPNs) for their customers AND the customers of the ISPs that leased the last mile.

Yes you can. Have the municipality be the one responsible for running fiber from reaidences to common access points. The the ISPs all have equal access and you can change ISPs very easy.

But again, politics and encumbent ISPs will prevent this.

The fact that some places only have one ISP is because government over-regulate right to pass and instal fiber.

Limiting how many companies can dig up the streets is a good thing. Imagine if every delivery company wanted to pave a road to your house.

Where the government screwed up is not making the last mile common to all ISPs.

I all for the free market at the ISP level if and only if the last mile is run by neutral third party with equal access to all ISPs.

As for corporate control is so acceptable and government control isn't is because the corps control the media and the government. Anytime someone in the government tries to control the corps there's a big media backlash against it.

1) Its not the executive branch's job to legislate. 2) The ISP's know whats best for innovation and serving their customers.
