Good sign to me is one of the steering members is Tom Hacohen founder of Svix (webhooks-as-a-service). We're adopting them where I work and everything from them has been solid. I know he's seen a lot of different use cases and will have good consideration for the schema they define in their spec file.

Seems interesting, all the best ai chat interfaces do well in selling themselves by offering strong citations - I like how you.com for example points to relevant SO posts when it presents code snippets.

I work at Periscope Data - we do our own lead scoring using home-baked ML through SciPy. It was interesting to see it play out in the real-world - interpretation of features/parameters was definitely important to the people driving the marketing/sales orgs.

Hey, I helped edit the blog post. Definitely agree that the different spiky behaviors are driven by data collection, but that's the beauty of real-world datasets! It would be interesting to learn if it was bulk first-of-month reporting, that crimes where the day wasn't specified get marked as the first, or some other phenomenon. The next step might be to interview police officers and ask :-)

The insight into only needing the differentials in the next 10 meters makes a load of sense and clearly worked.

Why is everyone hating on the video? I thought it was light-hearted and fun.

The quotes are cherry-picked from the "Risk Factors" sections of the S-1 filings, and are not the "trend" the author is implying - the point of the risk factors is exactly to detail that the company might fail to make a return on investment.

Hey! I worked on the preliminary efforts of this project in 2012, and was also a grader for the course. (I'm "Gibbons, A." in the citation list)

Many people are making great points - there's a wealth of uncontrolled variables (ie some students already know how to program), but it was a fascinating dataset and I could even see the paradigms play out over the quarter during discussions with my students, both experienced programmers and students getting their first exposure to programming.

I would offer as a larger takeaway that work like this has the potential to vastly increase our understanding of learning and development with the rise of MOOCs, ipads-in-every-classroom, and of course IDEs that save every incremental compilation :-)

Oh and as another mention - working with Marcelo and Paulo was awesome, both are super passionate, intelligent dudes.
