The torch is super underrated. I use it regularly, like when getting out of bed in the middle of the night. The best torch is the one you always have on you.

That's exactly how I use it. Apart from the calendar and calls, I keep all notifications off. For me, this is the perfect smartwatch. Colour displays and touch screens don't interest me.

The difference with Kagi is it lets me completely block Quora from my search results. Quora has been garbage for years, even before they started using AI answers.

Just curious, if they don't sound anything like metal to you, what kind of metal do you like to listen to? I mostly listen to doom metal, plus a little bit of death metal, industrial metal, and black metal.

They exclude pretty much every industrial metal band because industrial metal is ostensibly not metal enough.

Meanwhile, they added psychedelic rock band King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard and their whole discography (now up to 24 albums) solely because their 15th album was metal.

I love King Gizz, but Metal Archives are disappointingly inconsistent.

Amazon Prime is definitely hard to cancel, but I had a pleasant customer support experience at least.

A few years ago I came to realise I had left my monthly Prime subscription active for a whole year when I thought I had cancelled it.

Once I realised, I cancelled it and asked Amazon support if I could possibly get a refund; they granted it the next day after confirming I hadn't bought anything or watched Prime Video in that time.

I'm very careful to make sure I cancel Prime when I'm done with it now. It bothers me that they don't send an email receipt or anything every time you're billed.

I'm disappointed that Search My Site isn't seeing many legitimate viewers.

Just wanted you to know that I'm a fan. I love reading peoples personal websites, and Search My Site has been great for discoverability. I visit the Newest Pages and Browse Sites pages once or twice a week to check out the new sites being indexed.

I don't know what the answer is to the spam bots, but you do have some real visitors out there. :)

No, I don't have a bluetooth keyboard. On the Macbooks I use the built-in. On the iMac I use a wired keyboard.

I've had this problem with all my Macs at home, although it would never occur with other Wi-Fi access points. This leads me to believe it has something to do with the wireless access point itself.

I was never able to fix the problem, but it went away after I bought an AirPort Time Capsule, which now serves as my wireless router. It has an extremely limited feature set compared to a real router, but I haven't had connection problems once since implementing it.

You may be able to get them working in a FreeDOS virtual machine.

This is an excellent book. It's not just about Carmack and Romero (although it focuses on them) but also about id Software as a company, from its inception through to a few months before Quake III came out, if I remember correctly. A very insightful read.

I had this same problem for years. 18 months ago, I started carrying around a notepad (Field Notes) and clicky pen everywhere to make sure I could get everything down, and it's made a huge difference.

At the end of every day, I process the last day's worth of notes. Appointments/meetings go onto my calendar, tasks go into TeuxDeux, and cash expenses go into YNAB.

I would strongly suggest you read the novel series, A Song of Ice and Fire, instead of watching the TV show. Hours and hours of worth of detail had to be cut from the series to convert it for TV, and while they did a great job, you're left with little more than a highlights reel by comparison.

The novels are a must if you're after the detailed history and politics of the world the characters live in.
