...because it whips the llama's ass.
Get back to me when the tech gets shrunk down to a normal pair of glasses I can use as every day eyewear.
There's some really great story telling found in some K and C dramas that you just don't find in western media.
Interesting and varied modern story telling in KDramas and fantastic historical story telling in CDramas.
There's also quite a bit of it to consume from over the years on alternative platforms like Viki.
Sadly most of the "best" can't be found on Netflix so most people just don't have any idea about it.
This is meaningless.
"Good guys follow rules, bad guys don't."
As if getting the infrastructure to privately build your own model is challenging for people that have the capital to spend on such projects.
Meh. Just like anything else on the internet. Value can be derived if the person using it has both critical thinking as well as the capacity to spot the flaws or falsehoods.
In this sense it's literally no worse than reading random "news" articles and somehow taking it all as fact at face value.
If you fall into the trap of taking everything ChatGPT tells you as gospel you've already lost.
As for the so called false promise, this is old man yells at clouds stuff.
One thing I always wished Pizzly would have added was regular api key based authentication alongside oauth.
Make it suitable for all integration authentication possibilities.
I'm always interested in seeing alternative solutions to this problem.
So I'm not an expert, but for simplistic use cases I merely make use of https://github.com/oguimbal/pg-mem
It's a lot faster and easier than dealing with containers and the like.
I actually look forward to Neon but won't actually use it for real until pricing becomes available.
I'd extend the API to allow for querying via JSON similar to keen rather than merely focusing on visualizations.
Honestly as a dev all I want is a simple/fast/cheap keen alternative that I can dump events into and do ad-hoc analytical queries with programmatically.
Yeah but that's what would make you happy...
This is something I've been hoping to see for a long time. I've long wanted a serverless postgres solution that would enable me to inexpensively put up a db and throw hasura on top of it.
I have a question about performance though. Let's say I have a table with millions of rows. Would it automatically scale to resources to get me sub second queries on it?
Ultimately that's what I desire in such a solution. Something that will let me throw whatever at it and will handle the scaling to keep whatever queries I throw at it fast.
Unfortunately this seems to be expensive for arbitrary use.
I adore Hasura and have used it pretty extensively for over a year.
That being said, the biggest thing I desire from it is the ability to do group by aggregations.
Any time I have to do this I have to go through the tedious process of writing a function which is really annoying.
I wish to avoid having to break into raw SQL as much as possible when using a tool such as Hasura.
Cool. Hope it comes to fruition.
My other pipedream in addition to this would be multi tenancy (including integrations).
A perfect world scenario is a drop in multi tenant zapier alternative that enables SaaS providers to either create workflows for their users so all they need to do is authenticate integrations for the most part or allow for them to build their own workflows from scratch.
I realize this is probably out of scope of the services aim but it doesn't hurt to throw it out there since all of the alternatives that exist are sorely lacking in various ways.
I wish the workflow engine itself was open source too as it would be a better alternative to n8n.
My senior year in high school was the first year they had a programming class and it was Pascal. The very next year they instead started teaching C++.
As a consequence out of necessity a couple of years later I ended up self teaching myself PHP then Ruby then JS. These days I'm pretty proficient with it.
I had an easier time doing it because of those early concepts I learned with Pascal.
I often wonder what would have happened if I had learned C++ instead.
The waterfall columns layout is really nice.
I use Hasura heavily and the thing I wish it had out of the box is groupby aggregates.
This doesn't have aggregates yet but when that conversation happens hopefully it's considered.
The spatial organization is slick.
Give this thing a slick UX pass and it'll be a pretty nice tool I could actually see myself using.
Also dark mode is a must.
Yes, that indeed was more or less my point.
What you see is a sub selection of positive responses intentionally picked out to paint a narrative and ultimately market the product.
I actually find the act of doing that far more manipulative than automated thank you videos.
The fun is in the novelty, not in the <insert first name>.
Even if it's inherently considered dishonest by some, the same should be vigorously argued for all email/snail mail you have received for decades and frankly I can't remember the last time I've seen someone complain about a personalized email being dishonest.
Devils advocate on
Since all advertising is the practice of psychological manipulation how is this particularly different? Is all advertising unethical?
Even if the process is automated, if the end result is to evoke a nice sentiment in someone, is that really a bad thing? Wouldn't the ethics really come into play in using such tech to rip people off in a variety of ways rather than to merely say thank you for your purchase?
Devils advocate off
I think there's a strong argument to be made that the efficacy of this approach is more tied to the visual senses and novelty of it. It's not just the personalization since as you've pointed out it's no different than a personalized email.
Ultimately it's just a tool, and how people choose to use those tools is all that really matters.
A friend of mine ran a ecommerce company where for years they would physically record at least a couple hundred personalized thank you videos for people each day. While they were quite successful and people really dug them, I can tell you for a fact that such messages may as well have been automated because there's very little you actually know about your customers beyond their purchase/purchase history that you can truly personalize your message to them with.
We're back to AOL again are we?
I've known about this site for years and never really dug into it much but I have to say it's still the best MUD-on-the-web interface I've ever seen.
I saw the name and was hoping he was open sourcing his notes platform hehe.
This is interesting, but definitely above my head.
It was a big thing on Twitch long before any of the negative associations were made with it via media.
The vent join sound is burned into my brain.
