One of the best design write ups I've read in long time.

They nailed the fundamentals first, then moved on to the surprise and delight features. I believe that is fundamental for anyone doing UX/Design. I've seen way to many companies try to gamify or add silly features to improve the user experience, when in fact it ends up doing the opposite.

This is great!

By understanding the problem, you can bring multiple people together to figure out how to solve it. We all have different skillsets and sometimes the best solution isn't in our skill set or is a combination of skill sets.

I see this with my boss. He always brings feature request to me and we have to work backward to get to the problem. Then we usually come up with a simpler solution once we understand the problem.

Don't they already do that with the basic care line of products.

The site looks nice, but I had to do way to much clicking to see the information. I gave up after the thrid law.

Adding some color and better labeling would be good. Also I would have a confirmation dialog box to confirm what will happen when the button is pressed.

The odds are stacked against us. Working in the nutrition and fitness space has really opened my eyes into how poor nutrition over time really starts impacting lives. Even people who don't eat 'bad', still are having lots of health issues. So much sugar and other stuff in foods that are typically billed as healthy.

I'll have to check out those books, they sound really interesting. You might want to check out the book "The Case Against Sugar", it tells the story of sugar and is really interesting.

Have you tried Google inbox? Just kidding, Zoho mail is descent, we switch to it a few years ago and it has steadily gotten better.

I really like the idea of 'thin design'. That would help with some of the usability issues of flat design but still keep things simple.

Design will always be a blend of form and function. With an optimal goal of creating a product that is aesthetically pleasing and easy to use.

I would error on the side of making something more useable than beautiful. If something is ugly, but still usable, it has value. If something looks good and is not usable, it doesn't have much value. Unless it's Art or something that is only meant to be looked upon.

I website should help someone accomplish a task.

Now that task could be range from buying a faucet to seeing when your favorite band is in town. The easier it is to accomplish the task, the better the website.

What do you think separates a "designer" from a designer?

With flat design, sometimes it's really hard to know what you are suppose to click on. I enjoy its simplicity, but it does have some usability problems that come with it.

I think we went way overboard with it and the pendulum swung to far to the side of flat design. Hopefully we start moving away from super trendy flat design, much like we moved away from those crazy web 2.0 design styles.

How will this design look on a mobile device and other screen sizes?

I like the UI. Is there any chance of making a free world or free level I can try out before I sign up? I'm not sure if requiring an account generates more sign ups or scares people away. Looks like a cool product.

Thanks for the coupon. I've been wanting to learn how to take advantage of all the cool features sublime offers but I didn't know where to look. The original price was to much for me, but the coupon dropped the price enough for me to buy the book and videos.

Give me a product I believe in and a team that I respect and enjoy working with. After that everything else doesn't matter much to me. Because, with the right team and project it doesn't even feel like a job anymore.

When work starts feeling like work, that's when I start looking for a change. That's why I've always been drawn to start ups. It's usually a small group of talented and smart people looking to make a dent in the world.

You were grinding away at it for a long time, what was the final straw that made you decide to pivot?

I like the idea. If the users are the one paying the bills then the site will focus making the best user experience to please users. If the site is advertiser driven, then the focus will slowly shift to making advertisers happy and increasing ad revenue. I think Jeff Bezos said something like this when he was talking about the newspaper industry.

I would love to see Amazon and Tesla and a few other companies challenge and disrupt the traditional dealership model.

Having the right data be effortlessly recorded is key. If I have to manually input data, I'll forget to enter things and my data will not be completely accurate. Plus, if I don't get immediate value out of the system, I'll stop entering data all together because it's not worth my time.

But, with the new wave of smart watches, glasses and other smart technology there is an opportunity for that data to be easily imported into a personal analytics application.

I agree. Take your shot at this. When you look back in a few years you will be glad you took the chance on your start up. Plus it will be a really good learning experience no matter how things pan out. Plus you said it's what you want to do.

If the whole flat design pendulum could swing back a little that would be great. I don't see why everyone is going so crazy over it.

I made some personal goals this month and have been tracking them. Willpower has helped me toward accomplishing some of these goals, but motivation has plays a much larger role. Perhaps motivation recharges the lost willpower.
